***Author Note: This is not a love story. This is a story of love gone wrong.***
Growing up the way I did, you’d think I’d be more screwed up than what I actually am.
Soon as I turned sixteen, I left that bump in the road I called home and took my chances on the street.
Best decision I ever made.
Now, at the age of twenty six, I’m educated, employed and damn good at my job.
My friends have become my family. Like me, they know what it’s like to grow up unloved.
But the saying is true.
The world makes way for those who know where they are going.
That’s me.
I know where I’m going and I’ll get there eventually. On my own terms and at my own pace.
But then there’s him.
I feel his eyes on me. I see him hiding in plain sight. He watches me.
He makes me feel.
It’s unconventional.
But it’s real.
I’m sure you’re wondering how a person falls in love with their stalker.
So am I.
This isn’t a story.
This is my life.

Narration Type: Dual Narration
The heroine: Alexa (a.k.a. Lexi) - she moved to Sydney, Australia at eighteen with her foster mom who had been taking care of her since she was sixteen. She had a bad childhood before she ran away at sixteen and entered the foster system. She is now a caseworker for Australian family services. She loves her job and the kids she works with. She is a very happy person. Though she often feels “him” watching her. He is a man in a black hoodie, who never makes a move to meet her, but often seems to show up where she is and watches her and then is gone like a phantom.
The Hero: Twitch - he is a sociopath that stalks Alexa. He knows her and feels the need to punish her. He thinks it is her fault that he is the way he is and wants to make her pay. He knows that she doesn’t recognize him, but she has met him before, when they were younger. He likes to make people uncomfortable; it is one of his favorite things to do.
The Story: When Twitch saves Lexi from being raped, she is afraid at first, but he takes care of her. He carries her into her apartment, runs a bath for her and comforts her. She feels a bit bereft when he leaves, but she is used to being alone and taking care of herself, she figures that is how it will always be. Then the following night, she feels him sleeping next to her and likes the fact that he is there. She thinks of him as her hero, even though he stays in the shadows, when she sees him following her and waves at him, he turns away. She feels safe with him there.
I hate audiobooks where a character is named Alexa. I listen to books out loud, and my Echo Dot keeps going off every time the name Alexa is spoken. Though I did like Twitch, despite his odd name, I liked how mysterious he was from the start, and he sounded so hot. He was a big guy, all tatted up, with a big package to match, and pierced no less. Plus, he likes it rough and dirty. What is there not to like? Well, maybe the fact that he breaks into her house and climbs into bed with her on the night after they first formally meet. Or maybe the fact that he stalks her all the time. Or that he gets Lexie to trust him even though he has nefarious plans for her.
“I don’t want to hurt you, but I will if I need to, Alexa. It’s your choice.”
“I know I’m scaring you, but I promise you, you give yourself to me and I’ll make sure you never want sex any other way, ever again. Be strong for me Alexa. Give in.”
“I don’t really understand, but I want this stupid conversation to end, so he can stuff me like a Thanksgiving turkey again.”
“Being dropped by your stalker, is pretty bad. I mean he watches you week in and week out for almost a year, and then you have sex and he’s like wham bam, thank you ma’am. We no longer require your position as victim. Don’t call us, we’ll call you. It’s not you, it’s me, We’re just at different stages of our stalker, stalkee relationship. I need space.”
“You know that thing people have that tells them they are doing something wrong or pushing too far? Yeah, I don’t have one of those.”
I liked this book; the steamy scenes were very hot. But there were things that definitely didn’t make much sense. Twitch at one point tells Lexie that he makes his money in the drug trade, and she is so disappointed, because in her past and in her job, she has seen a lot of the devastation caused by drugs. Yet she barely takes any time to get over it. Then we see her trying to get one of the kids that she has assigned to her out of dealing drugs and Twitch comes in and offers him a job, and Lexi is just fine with it even though she knows he is in the drug trade as well, except on a much larger scale. Though I still liked the characters despite their flaws, but the ending threw me for a loop.
This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Celia Stone and Jeremy Gardner. Celia Stone has a soft, feminine voice that is very pleasant. She is expressive and you can’t tell she is reading. I like her narration, but don’t really like her voice for male characters so I wish this was done in duet narration. Jeremy Gardner has a fairly deep voice and is kind of soft-spoken. I would have liked a deeper, harsher, more dangerous sounding voice for Twitch, though Jeremy didn’t do a bad job and had a much nicer voice than some books I have listened to.
Steamy stalker romance!

The MMC treats the FMC very poorly, and her convictions don’t hold water, both of their personalities were wishy washy.
The steam was steamy, very dom/sub leaning smut.
Overall, I give it a generous 3 stars.
Slow build and rushed ending
