JT Kalnay is an attorney and an author. He has been an athlete, a soldier, a professor, a programmer, an Ironman, and mountain climber. JT now divides his time between being an attorney, being an author, and helping his wife look after seven nieces and nephews.
JT was born and raised in Belleville, Ontario, Canada. Growing up literally steps from the Bay of Quinte, water, ice, fishing, swimming, boating, and drowning were early influences and appear frequently in his work.
Educated at the Royal Military College of Canada, the University of Ottawa, the University of Dayton, and Case Western Reserve University, JT has spent countless hours studying a wide range of subjects including math, English, computer science, and law.
JT is a rock climber and can often be found atop crags in West Virginia, Kentucky, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, California, Mexico, and Italy. Rock climbing appears frequently in his writing.
JT is an avid fitness athlete, and has begun to compete in fitness competitions with a goal of reaching the CrossFit Games one day.
JT has witnessed firsthand many traumatic events including the World Trade Center Bombing, the Long Island Railroad Shooting, a bear attack, a plane crash, and numerous fatalities, in the mountains and elsewhere.
Disasters, loss, and confronting personal fear are common themes in his writing.

JT conceived The Keeper as an amalgamation of four short stories set in four locations, Bon Echo Ontario, Joshua Tree California, and his home in Ohio.
The Pattern is a science fiction romance that deals with themes of hubris and righting a wrong. Craig Walsh accidentally cuts and pastes some code from a video game into his auto pilot software at work. The resulting plane wrecks tear him and his family apart. His year long saga to right the wrong costs him nearly everything, even while introducing him to the love of his life. JT conceived The Pattern while sitting on a runway at LaGuardia for several hours while multi-tasking between editing a device driver and playing solitaire.
Mina's Eyes is an action romance where damaged boy meets damaged girl in an idyllic location. Try as they might, Kane and Mina are just not able to overcome all the obstacles that are put in their way, floods, rip tides, old boyfriends, and, worst of all, old memories. At one time Mina was the prima ballerina for the Bolshoi ballet until a terrible accident ended her career. After marrying and having beautiful twin girls, Mina's world is rocked again by their murder at the hands of terrorists. Kane has secretly authored several novels, and has suffered through his wife's lengthy illness and ultimate demise. Kane has been reviled for actions associated with the passing of his wife. Though Mina and Kane are drawn together by a passionate longing and love, they may have just too many dramas and demons to overcome. JT wrote Mina's Eyes on location in Cala Luna, Sardinia, Italy while travelling with a group of dedicated rock climbers. Those people on the trip may recall seeing JT with his pen and yellow pad, sitting on the rooftop terrace, or sitting by the ocean. Now they know what he was up to.

In February 1993 JT experienced the Long Island Rail Road at close range, and then was traumatized again in December 1993 when he experienced the World Trade Center bombing again at very close range. JT was injured during the evacuation following the December bombing. This twisted tale grew out of the attempt to recover from these back-to-back trauma. Caumsett is a ghost story. Can the love of one woman overcome a hundred year old curse? Find out as Jane Jones tries to rescue her husband from the clutches of a whaling captain's ghost who seeks to break his imprisonment by stealing Bill Jones' mind, then body, then soul. While running in Caumsett Park on Long Island JT fell and hit his head. During his convalesence, which included many hours sitting on the beach at Caumsett, he became interested in the whaling history of Long Island. This also lead him to become interested in (obsessed with?) the ghost stories that surrounded the perished whalers and their lost loves left behind. Caumsett is the ghost story that resulted. It was written on location in the park and at other locations on the north coast of Long Island.
