As a former Florida licensed marriage and family therapist and president of the American Family Foundation, Tom McQueen, also known as "America's Grandpa," is an expert in family relationships. But what has taught him most about life, love and family is his role as a father and grandfather. Tom's most recent book, What I Learned When I Died (Xulon Press, November 2019) tells the story of the ten lessons he learned during his unexpected trip to Heaven at birth. Critics are hailing the book as a guide for healthy Christian living. Reflections of a Hospice Chaplain: Life Lessons From The Death Journeys of Young and Old (Xulon Press, November 2017) has more pre-orders than any book since Letters to Ethan. Reflecting upon intimate life conversations Tom has had with dying hospice patients, each chapter contains a life lesson he acquired from those shared moments, each lesson designed to give readers a path to leading a happy, productive, and meaningful life. Jesus Therapy: The Best Advice Money Can't Buy (Xulon Press, April, 2016) has been heralded in the Christian market as a powerful and practical tool for leading fulfilling and successful lives while following the example of Jesus Christ. Each chapter contains an explanation of an important scriptural passage, counseling relative to the application of that scripture in our daily lives, followed by a prayer for guidance. Jesus Therapy is a summary of McQueen's impression of what Jesus wants us to know based upon the author's journey to Heaven shortly after his birth. His first bestseller, Letters to Ethan: A Grandfather's Legacy of Life and Love (Seraphina Press, 978-0-9841965-9-3, November 2010),was awarded a 2011 "Angel Award" presented by the Excellence in Media Foundation of which previous winners include Tom Hanks, Diane Sawyer, Randy Travis and the acclaimed movie, "The Blind Side," McQueen shares his wisdom through 33 letters he penned to his young grandson, Ethan, offering advice on topics ranging from faith to friendship to fun. Never knowing his paternal grandparents due to their premature deaths, McQueen always wished they left something behind to explain their viewpoints on family and life in general. This childhood wish inspired him to write letters to his son and grandson, documenting the mistakes and miracles of his life. Born in Utica, N.Y., McQueen graduated from St. Hyacinth College and Seminary before receiving his master's in divinity from Christ the King Seminary. McQueen worked as a marriage and family therapist for 25 years and was an independent contractor for Fortune 500 companies working as a performance, process and profit improvement facilitator. As a result of his work with families and youth, McQueen was personally invited to the White House Conference on Youth by then President Richard Nixon. The mayor of Pensacola, Fla., also asked McQueen to lead the city in creating a statement of core values after the city was decimated by abortion clinic bombings. As president of the not-for-profit American Family Foundation (www.americanfamilyfoundationinc.com), McQueen and his volunteers serve the needs of homeless veterans, indigent families, and abused/neglected elderly. Although Letters to Ethan marked McQueen's debut as an author, he has written several business and self-help books such as Near-life Experiences: Discovering New Powers for Personal Growth, which encourages readers to take advantage of daily opportunities. McQueen's articles have also been published in magazines and he has been featured in the Orlando Sentinel, Pensacola News Journal and Tampa Bay Times. He has appeared on the Lifetime Television Network and CatholicTV and on radio programs throughout the US and Canada. In addition to his volunteer work as the president of the American Family Foundation, McQueen hosts free workshops for churches. He is currently serving his second elected term as a Fire Commissioner in the East Lake Tarpon Special Fire Control District in Palm Harbor, Florida.
