I first started writing when I was about seven. My grandpa had bought me a Tiny Tom Thumb typewriter. I wore it out writing, and my Dad upgraded it to a typewriter that wrote in cursive in Red and Black ink. When I couldn't find the ribbon for that anymore, I went on to an older model typewriter that I wrote plays and short stories on. About that time is when I took on a dare to write a book from my English teacher in 10th grade. Well, I decided to write a mystery, but the characters kept falling in love with each other and I decided the best way to go was to write romance novels. In 1992 I upgraded to an electric typewriter and drove my husband crazy for hours on end. He hated when our children went to bed because he knew I'd boot up that thing and type away. One night he had had enough. He dared me to go to Sears and get a computer to "shut up that awful noise", so two of my children and I went off to Sears the next day and bought one. Well, 5 computers later, I have no complaints of "the awful noise", but instead of, "When are you coming to bed?" I've always had a knack for stories. My kids loved when I told them bedtime stories. I've always wanted to be an author, ever since I can remember. Rejection and rejection seems to bring you down at times, but I would bounce back and try again. I had a few friends that helped me, but pushing me, and letting me know that I could do what I put my mind to. There's only one thing that some people don't understand. They'll ask what my next plot line is and I'll tell them that it started out one way and a character showed up unexpectedly and it's taken a different turn. They always say, "Tam, you know what you're writing, so how can a character show up that you have no clue about?" I'll just shrug my shoulders and say, "That character just wants to cause trouble somehow." I find myself writing about something that just came into my mind, or something I had dreamt of, or just a question someone asked. It's amazing how a book can be formed off of a single idea. The one thing, constantly that keeps me going writing, is to prove to that one person..."See, I did it!" Now, 28 years after struggling to start a book, I have so many in my computer between a page or two, up to just about done. As long as I have an idea, or a complaint, or just a dream I can't get out of my head, I will always have a book going. Although writing is my passion, I also garden and run a ceramics shop, and I'm a fanatic about the weather. The wilder the weather, the better it is. I've been in a blizzard and through hurricanes. I have dogs and cats, but have also had rabbits and cows as pets. Cows are just bigger dogs!
