Risa has an undergraduate degree in English Literature and a masters in Communications Studies, where she wrote about the communications history of open source. She helped start Worn Fashion Journal working alongside founder and editor in chief Serah-Marie McMahon, and in that capacity wrote feminist fashion history for a couple of years. For two decades she has organized interdisciplinary community events in indie arts; around social justice campaigns especially for a Universal Basic Income; in food and drink and beyond, with a special expertise in weaving connections online and off. She has worked in community building in tech for over 15 years. She lives and writes and works her magic from a cabin on a lake in the woods north of Montréal, QC, CA.
