MARÍA CONEJO (1988, Morelos, México) Lives and works in Mexico City A visual artist from Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes’ School of Design in Mexico, María’s main media is drawing. Her work revolves around the body and its representation as a sign that communicates her existential concerns. María has been twice awarded the National Secretary of Culture’s FONCA grant for young creators in 2014 and 2016. She was a finalist in the first Biennial of Illustration in Mexico, organized by Pictoline and The New York Times in 2018. Her work has been exhibited at SWAB Art Fair in Barcelona, De Kooning Studio in NYC in 2019, and in the Juxtapoz ClubHouse at Art Basel Miami in 2018 among many Contemporary Art Fairs and Illustrations shows in Mexico. Her work has been featured in publications as The Washington Post, Vice, Vogue and Glamour LatAm, Revista de la Universidad, Revista Tierra Adentro, Revista Casa del Tiempo, Chilango and P Magazine (NY), among others. She has collaborated with many feminist and human rights organizations to end gender violence.
