KaaVonia Hinton, Ph.D. is a professor in the Darden College of Education & Professional Studies at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where she serves as Chair of the Teaching & Learning Department. She is the author of Angela Johnson: Poetic Prose (2006) and Sharon M. Draper: Embracing Literacy (2009), and co-author (with Gail K. Dickinson) of Integrating Multicultural Literature in Libraries and Classrooms in Secondary Schools (2007) and (with Katherine T. Bucher) of Young Adult Literature: Exploration, Evaluation, and Appreciation (Prentice Hall, 2009). Her reviews of young adult and children's literature have been published in VOYA and ForeWord Magazine. Her recent scholarship includes: Hinton, K., and Suh, Y. (2019).
