John W. Roberts, a distinguished author and academic, embarked on a remarkable journey that has shaped his multifaceted career. With a passion for literature and a relentless pursuit of knowledge, he earned his bachelor's degree in English with honors from Tusculum College. John then went on to earn a master's degree in English from Columbia University, followed by a Ph.D. in English from The Ohio State University. After completing his doctorate, John joined the faculty of the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO as an assistant professor of English. For six years, he dedicated himself to teaching and scholarship, nurturing the minds of countless students. Seeking new opportunities, he ventured to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he served as Faculty Master of the W.E.B. DuBois College House and as an Associate Professor in the Department of Folklore and Folklife. During his fourteen-year tenure at Penn, he held the position of Director of the Afro-American Studies Program for eight years, making lasting contributions to the program. John's passion for education led him back to The Ohio State University, this time as a Professor of English. He quickly assumed the role of Chair of the Department of African and African American Studies, the largest department of its kind in the nation. His expertise and dedication earned him national recognition and an invitation by the Clinton White House to serve as Deputy Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. For two years, John provided invaluable leadership as the chief administrative officer in Washington. Returning to The Ohio State University, John embraced new challenges and responsibilities. He served as Dean of Arts and Humanities for a total of six years. He then accepted the role of Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Houston, where he made significant contributions to academic excellence and innovation. Transitioning from academia, John embarked on an exciting literary career. While residing in Upper Marlboro, MD, he recently released his first novel, "Redemption: The Story of Bert and His Boys," captivating readers with his eloquent storytelling and deep understanding of the human condition. Building on this success, his second novel, "With Eyes Wide Open: The Execution of Quentin Marshall," was published the same year. John's third novel, titled "Chasing His Destiny," has recently been released by Newman Springs Press. John W. Roberts, with his vast experience in academia and his emerging voice as an accomplished author, continues to inspire readers and learners alike. His profound insights into the human experience and his unwavering commitment to storytelling make him a compelling and influential figure in contemporary literature.
