I am a retired Navy Captain who enjoys telling sea stories and helping others learn from my experience and mistakes. I grew up a Navy Brat and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1984, served on 9 ships and commanded two, USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79) and USS SAN JACINTO (CG 56). I have also spent much of my career studying human factors such as fatigue, and my research and writing led to a Dr. of Engineering in 2019 and being named Author of the Year for 2018 by both the Surface Navy Association and the United States Naval Institute. I love to write and you can find a number of articles on leadership, manpower, and crew endurance at the USNI website. I am married to the former Gudrun Sukatus of Flensburg Germany, so some of my sea stories are in German - all are best told over a beer! I live in Chesapeake, VA with our three dogs, total weight 25 lbs, Maggie, Missy and Fifi. I hope you will enjoy my books and share with your friends.
