ACCLAIMED NOVELIST and GILLER PRIZE-winner, JOSEPH BOYDEN, says; "With Red Wolf, Jennifer Dance has come howling out of the wilderness...and I'm deeply impressed." JENNIFER IS THRILLED TO HAVE JOSEPH BOYDEN'S SUPPORT. Jennifer Dance has a passion for justice and equality, especially with respect to Canada’s indigenous people. She has experienced first-hand where racism can lead. "Looking back, it has made me more sensitive to the plight of others. It has driven my creativity." She also has a great love of the Canadian wilderness and the animals who call it home. Fascinated by the interactions of all living things, she draws on a wealth of personal experience to create her characters and scenarios. Born in 1949, Jennifer graduated from the University of the West Indies in 1970 with a B.Sc (Agric). She worked in medical research at St.Thomas's Hospital in London, England before migrating to Canada in 1979. Her resume is rounded out by raising a family on a small farm and dabbling in self sufficiently, including milking a cow by hand! She is the proud mother of five extraordinary adult children and one special grand-dog. She lives on a small farm in Stouffville, Ontario where she indulges her life-long love affair with horses. The stories in her White Feather Collection parallel the plight of humans and endangered animals, bringing the wrongs of the past and the present into sharp focus. She tackles controversial and difficult topics, including First Nations issues, the destruction of the environment, and resulting loss of habitat for indigenous species. Her mandate is to raise awareness among young people, facilitate understanding, increase compassion, and provoke thought and discussion, while allowing them to come to their own conclusions. Red Wolf is winner of the Silver Moonbeam medal, and is a nominee for both the the Silver Birch award and the Manitoba Young Readers Choice award.
