Harry Treasure has been a farmer all his life. When most people are heading into retirement, Harry has instead reinvented himself as a professional author, painter and sculptor. He presently runs a property in the Central West of NSW, Australia. Although driving a tractor pays the bills, he has always been a frustrated writer – time on the tractor gives him plenty of time to think. Born in 1935 in Cowra, NSW, Harry has endured life on the land, facing flood, drought and fire, living much of the drama in his writing. Harry has mainly written short stories and had many published over the years in publications such as Australian Short Stories, Aus-Wide Tales, Australian Post, the ABC, Canberra Times and the Sun Herald. One of Harry’s short stories, Above Dargo, has been published many times and won a fair amount of acclaim. This was his first venture into life in the high country of Victoria and the latest novel, King’s Spur, is along the same lines. The stories are inspired by his relatives - a whole bunch of them, a difficult lot who have lived in this country for a hundred and fifty years. Heavily based on true events, the story is written as fiction and although much has been told about this country already, there are still many things about this fascinating and unique way of life in Australia’s early history to be told. The mountain men and more importantly the mountain women have gained a fair amount of publicity over the years, particularly of late so Harry thought this is a good time to tell some of their stories.
