David Viola is the author of You Have Unleashed a Storm: New York City’s Descent Into Chaos During America’s Most Explosive Era of Radical Violence (Hanover Square/HarperCollins) – a narrative, character-driven history set in 1970s New York City, exploring the unprecedented levels of domestic terrorism that was unleashed on the city and the alarming extents that the authorities went to in order to counter it. David received his PhD in U.S. History from the City University of New York Graduate Center, a Master’s degree at Tufts University, and a Bachelor’s degree at Binghamton University. He has been published in top scholarly journals and has contributed to stories in media outlets ranging from the New York Times to the Washington Post, the BBC and NPR. David is also an award-winning filmmaker. Films he has written or produced have appeared at places like the Toronto International Film Festival and the TriBeCa Film Festival, on CNN and Netflix, and in movie theaters around the country. David has developed other documentary projects alongside the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney. David lives in Brooklyn with his partner.
