The Rev. Dr. Cheryl M. Peterson is Academic Dean and Professor of Ecumenical Theology at Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, a seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. An ordained pastor in the ELCA, she served congregations in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin before joining the faculty of Trinity Lutheran Seminary at Capital University in Columbus Ohio, where she taught systematic theology for 18 years before becoming the dean at Wartburg. She received the PhD from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the MDiv from the Lutheran School of Theology at Wisconsin. She served on the Eleventh Round of the U.S. Lutheran-Roman Catholic Dialogue (2006-2010) and the first round of the International Lutheran-Pentecostal Dialogue (2016-2022). She is on the editorial council of Dialog: A Journal for Theology and holds memberships in the American Academy of Religion, Society for Pentecostal Studies, and the Catholic Theological Society of America. She is a frequent speaker at ELCA synod assemblies and rostered leader gatherings and has served as faculty for the Lutheran World Federation Retreat for Newly Elected Leaders and Lay Leadership Seminar.
