About this listen

Unwilling to be sold as brood mare in an arranged marriage, Lady Juliana Sinclair decides her own future, and runs. But disaster strikes, leaving her at the mercy of the first man that finds her.

Leonard Notley is tortured by his past and living in hiding with a young ward that he knows is better off without him. While hunting in the woods, he comes across a lost woman and feels compelled to help her.

Together, they navigate the pain of trust and vulnerability, and as the passion ignites between them, their carefully crafted facades begin to crumble.

With unknown dangers lapping at their heels and a search for Lady Juliana begun, will their time together be cut short? Or will their brief acquaintance be enough to put a balm on their injured souls and begin healing their wounds?

Historical romance and so much more

Cheri has written a spectacular historical romance filled with adventure, mystery, and plenty of swoony spice. Juliana is a strong minded FMC who is determined not to bow to societal pressure and ends up finding our reclusive MMC Leo. Both hide their true identity but love finds its way to them anyway. I loved these characters and this story!

Zara and Shane were perfect as Juliana and Leo and transported me back in time to keep me on the edge of my seat. Fantastic performances by incredibly talented actors!

Excellent writing and performances!

Cheri Champagne is new to me, but I know Shane East and Zara Hampton-Brown well. 😊 This story has all the things I love: spunky, independent heroine; earnest, grumpy yet squishy hero (“burnt cinnamon roll,” as another admired author and narrator has described it); plot twists that maintain engagement; interesting supporting/supportive cast; superbly satisfying HEA. Highly recommend, and looking forward to Champagne’s upcoming works!

Great start to a new series.

I haven't listened to a regency romance prior to now but I was in the mood for something different and decided to give this one a listen. You get mystery, adventure, romance and a little bit of spice all nicely wrapped up in one story. Everything tied up nicely in the end and there just enough of a hint for the next book to leave you wanting it but not feeling like you're being left on a cliffhanger.

As always, Shane East and Zara Hampton-Brown give a wonderful performance in their narrations. It's a fun read and looking forward to the next one.

Single issue review

I’m going to ignore all the rest and focus on the one element that stood out for me. There’s a lot of swearing in this book. And all of it is incompetent. To paraphrase Sam Clemmens, she knows the words but not the tune. And I know swearing. I felt sorry for the male narrator who was really trying to put some juice on this foul-mouthed twaddle.

Otherwise, it’s an historical-ish romance of dubious plot and pedigree and moderate spice. Maybe it’s your thing.
