About this listen
She came to betray him… But he still knows the way to her heart … If only they can find a way to outwit the dangerous forces trying to destroy them both.
No one could have known the truth: that the beauty who swept into the elegant ballroom was a pirate queen with a treacherous plan. To save herself from execution, she's agreed to identity an infamous privateer attending the ball in disguise. Only Maureen Hawthorne can expose the double life and lies of Julien d’Artiers, the toast of the ton. After all, she is his wife…
Julien is stunned to discover the wife—he loved and lost—is alive. But here she is—determined to bring about his complete ruin. And while Maureen’s sworn to see him hang, Julien has other ideas: tormenting her with memories of the passion they once shared, determined to right the wrongs between them, and willing to do anything to keep from losing her again.
As their enemies circle closer ready to see them both hanged, Julien and Maureen forge an uneasy alliance that quickly becomes a temptation neither can resist.

Terrible Virtual Voice
I loved the author and I love the story line. I dislike the virtual voice reading. It lacks emotion and characterization. There are also several mispronunciations examples are modest instead of modiste. Machinations is pronounced with the American pronunciation (‘ch’ making a ‘Kuh’ sound) versus the British pronunciation (‘ch’ making a ‘sh’ sound) which aligns better with the setting of the story. Bow Street which should be pronounced with a long “o” is pronounced “bough.” Present was pronounced present as in a gift. Which didn’t work with the context of the story. These are just a few of the mistakes I was able to make written note of. I would have stopped listening to the reading had I not enjoyed the storyline itself.

AI narration is AWFUL!!
The story was great!! The narration was soooo terrible. If the story hadn’t been so engaging, I would have ditched the book after 1 chapter of that horrible emotionless voice.
