About this listen
Pepper Pace's interracial fairytale is the story of Beast, a marine with a destroyed face; and a plus-sized beauty who has identity issues. A lesson learned is that beauty is not just what is shown on the outside. In this romance taken from the Beauty and the Beast fairytale, Pepper makes you question: "Who is the beauty and who is the beast?" This story contains sexually explicit content and language.

Story
Bailey is a young, aspiring actress that has never had a real acting job besides a role in a high school play. But when she sees an ad for a production that takes place in 1954, she decides to take a chance. The only thing she knows is that it is fully immersive, and would require her to live in the fictional town for one full year. The rules are simple, stay in character and she gets a nice payout of more than one hundred thousand dollars. But would a black woman willingly live in the 50s?

Since aging out of the foster care system and becoming a nurse, all I dreamed of was marrying a nice doctor and moving to a two-story house in the suburbs. So how did a dangerous biker gang criminal end up handcuffed to my bed? And why did I agree to let that animal teach me how to...ahem...do things. Wicked things. In the very same bed he’s been handcuffed to in order to keep me safe? Long story. And I’m truly scared to find out how it will end.

When you know, you know. Or so say the men in my family. While I was never one to run from love, marriage, or commitment, I knew it’d take a strong woman to handle everything that came with being with me. Not only was my family well connected and wealthy, but as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, I had made a success of my life on my own. In my world, women came a dime a dozen...or so I thought.

Story
I was raised to be a ruler of two worlds. One with a pen. One with a knife. Be the king of the concrete jungle at all costs. I should've simply taken a queen, not courted one. I should've forced her submission, not earned it. I should've let respect be enough, not fall in love. Someone has made a grave mistake in coming for my company. For my throne. For my Mia Bella. And for that, they will not only meet the man I was raised to become, but the one I am now, for the only woman I will ever bow to.

True Love
I read several reviews that almost made me pass on this book; I'm so glad I read the one that explains the narrator. LaShone Garth did a great job narrating this enjoyable twist on an old classic! This Beast is such a beauty. I look forward to reading more of Pepper Pace.

I love this book beyond words, so when the audio got release I jus had to get it. I wish I did not. This must be her first time narrating a book, cause you can tell. This was just not good to me at all. I wish I could unlisten to it.

Story is death by Narrator
Who ok'd this narrator? This is by far thee worse narration I've heard in my 10yrs of listening to books. I feel that the greatness of this book was pulled down by the monotone voice of the narrator and her lack of talent in voice diversity in the characters. Everybody had the same voice male/female. I'm not trying to be mean in this review but sometimes things have to be said bluntly when they are bad enough. I fell in Love with Pepper Pace and her writing a few years ago and have read and reread several of her books. I also live in Cincinnati and I'm very proud she is from her too. I smile everytime she mentions a place I'm familiar with in our city. Her stories are exciting, loving, gripping emotional rollercoasters that you never want to end.

Refeshing!
I loved this story! The creative, well developed and out-of-box story line were so such a breath of fresh air after so many books with the same predictable plot, character types, pitfalls and lazy writing. I absolutely loved that the conflict didn't result from obvious and willful stupidity of the heroine, and I equally enjoyed a hero who wasn't a billionaire who didn't step off a magazine cover. Lastly, I was overjoyed to hear a narrator who was actually of the ethnicity of the main character she was portraying. Refreshing!

So the point of me listening to audible is so that I can "read" while working. This story was so good that I sat straight through and listened without doing any work LOL. The characters are well-rounded, the story has depth, and it leaves you feeling fulfilled. Wonderful job Pepper Pace! Adding you to my list of favorites. oh and good narration by LaShonda

CUT NARRATOR A BEAK
Would you listen to Beast again? Why?
Yes, because Pepper is an awesome writer. Oh. If you're a BWWM fan, this is you're girl. (I'm a chocolate sister and have no interest in BWWM if the female is a WBF. That to me is a W/BWWM. It's just my preference, but Pepper mixes it up so you can choose).
Who was your favorite character and why?
Both main characters but T.K (?) was funny.
What about LaShone Garth’s performance did you like?
This is really why I'm writing this review. I passed this audible over a few times because of the reviews for the narrator. As someone who averages 6 hours a day ( don't judge a sister), the narrator is good. TRUST AND BELIEVE, I've heard baaaaaad! As a reviewer said, she's new at this. She "reads" the story as you would yourself. She does add correct pauses, appropriate emotion, etc. She hasn't learned to create different voices and really "act" out the story. Perhaps listening to Michael Pauley, Tali Martel, Pepper Laramie and Quiana Goodrum (who I, after the first time hearing her do A Heart Not Easily Broken, swore I would never listen to anything by her again, but she is unbelievable in Inevitable and a couple others). We may forget that this is a learned craft. It is important that we continue to give them feedback in the form of constructive criticism. I believe narrators like Ms. Garth will benefit as will we. However, I normally appreciate my fellow reviewers for saving me headaches, earaches, money and time by telling me which narrators to skip. Fortunately, the reviews for Ms.Pace made me take a chance. I immediately followed up by buying Juicy and Crash for Kindle. Pepper's average 4.5 rating is well deserved! I look forward to Ms. Garth's growth.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
...and did!!!!
Any additional comments?
I'm really glad that author's such as Ms.Pace has some books on audible because, sometimes, like in this case, that's how I'm introduced to them.

Grown up fairy tale
Would you consider the audio edition of Beast to be better than the print version?
The print version of the story is better than the audio. The reader is just a bit choppy in her delivery. However, I did notice some details I missed in just reading the story myself.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Beast?
The most memorable scenes were when Chris expresses his loneliness and the scene when Ashley and Chris first acknowledge their love.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrator needed to tell the story not read it, or at least make it seem that way. She had a pleasant sounding voice, but she read in a rather choppy, stilted manner. It was not the worst, but it did seem stiff and lacked expression.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Chris looks at the empty chair while he is eating his dinner, and the reader can just feel how lonely he is. It was very touching.
Any additional comments?
This is one of my favorite beauty/beast tellings. I kind of wish, though, that the end was less Disney. I actually thought the story had more meaning without that, but I still loved it.
