About this listen

Bailey is a young, aspiring actress that has never had a real acting job besides a role in a high school play.

But when she sees an ad for a production that takes place in 1954, she decides to take a chance.

The only thing she knows is that it is fully immersive, and would require her to live in the fictional town for one full year. The rules are simple, stay in character and she gets a nice payout of more than one hundred thousand dollars. But would a black woman willingly live in the 50s?

A compelling , sweet and historical yet modern story. Complex characters. I love the narrator! I hope there is a sequel!

Engrossing Story, but falls short.

Pretty good with a very good ending! I liked the premise and it was fun to go behind the scenes of a “Reality TV show”. Warning though: if you are expecting a truly authentic 1950’s story and setting, I’m afraid you may be disappointed. I was. 😞

I hope Ms. Pace is working on season two 🤞🏾 I need to know what happened to Bailey and Bobby's characters plus I want to know what's going on in their personal lives

Wow! Listen, Listen, Listen!!!!

This story!!! Wow! Imagine being in an interracial marriage in 1954! How would that resonate with your neighbors, friends, families, and businesses? The created cast and set did a dynamic job! There were so many difficult and intricate social topics that were addressed to include… And Aunt May was the glue that meld the stories with her outstanding advice and cooking skills. RIP to Curtis. You will be sadly missed. Guy, you really surprised me in the end. Bobby and Bailey, I am ready for 1955!

Respectfully
A Happy Fan

P.S. So, when can we see this wonderful show on Netflix?

So much more than just a story!

I normally don't leave a comment, but this story sat in my wish list for awhile. I was unsure if I wanted to purchase it. I am so glad I did. This journey was so captivating and had me going back to listen to chapters over and over again. I love the narrator's ability to give each character their own personality through their voice and bring to life a vivid picture of their experiences. Can't wait for a continuation of this book. This book should be a recommended read in the high school curriculum! Love It!

Dragged out love story.

So I went in thinking this book was going to go one way based on the description and it went totally left field. I did like most of the characters and when they actually did touch on the racial issues of the 50’s I found it engaging. Overall the relationship between Bailey and Bobby was just a bit too much for me and felt dragged out -but that may also be that I don’t generally care for love stories, especially far fetched ones.
