About this listen

Kennedy Stacey couldn't be more down on her luck. Her father, a rodeo cowboy, recently passed away after a long, expensive illness. The medical bills, combined with his habit of gambling and the fact that she had to quit her job to take care of him, has left her homeless and with no place to go but back to the rodeo. She tracks down Luke Delaney, one of her father's protégés, and asks for help.

Luke Delaney thought of Red Stacey as a father. Kennedy didn't call him when Red was sick, so he didn't get to say good-bye to the man he loved like a father. He can't forgive her for that, and turns her away.

But when she turns to his brother Liam for help instead, Luke steps forward, partly because of his concern of how his brother the player will treat her, and partly because he knows her father would want him to.

Since she's homeless, she has to stay in Luke's tiny RV. At first close quarters lead to sparring as they fight their attraction - and she fights to have some kind of independence when she's leaning so heavily on him. But nature can only hold out so long, and despite their better judgment, they give in to their desires.

But Kennedy is afraid he's taking her body in payment, and he's afraid of the feelings he has for her as he gets to know her again, the feelings he hasn't let himself feel since they were 16 years old.

At the Cowboy's Mercy

I enjoyed this love story and the characters. I enjoyed the story during the second half more than the first. There was quite a bit of angst in the first half.

This was a great short story. I would have loved if it had been longer but I really liked the story line. I love a friends/enemies to lovers story and this was little bit of both. It was short and sweet and pretty Hot too!

Tracy Marks was great as always! She is the reason I picked up this series!

At the Cowboys Mercy

I personally would have liked a little more story line to go with the sex. The story base was really good. The narration was really good.

3.5 Cowboy up Stars

This is a feel good short story.
For being a short story its really good and well written, I was left wanting more.

Kennedy and Luke grew up together. Luke had his eyes set on Kennedy only at the time Kennedy had eyes for Luke’s brother Liam.
A few years later, Kennedy finds herself down on her luck. She asks Luke for a job.
I really enjoyed Kennedy’s character not only does she dust herself off and get back on track. But she does it with grace and dignity.

Luke I just a rodeo cowboy who wants to make enough money so he can life off his land with a women on his arm, is that Kennedy?
I did find Luke to be very jealous. That part wasn’t my thing but it worked for the story.
I enjoyed this fast paced short of a cowboy and his lady love and I want more I say!

I really enjoyed the narrator as well brings the story to life.

Hot little cowboy novella

I don't get too many cowboy books but I had to jump on this when it came to my attention. It was a short steamy read and I really enjoyed it. Kennedy (h) was down on her luck. She had to quit her job to care for her dying dad. Luke (H) is a rodeo cowboy who has a dirty mouth and a heart of gold. His alpha possessive streak was pretty damn sexy too. The two are childhood friends who come together again after the death of Kennedy's dad. She needs his help because she literally has nowhere to go and no money to get there. I liked that the two were pretty honest with each other and didn't play games. I do wish that the ending wasn't so abrupt. It's not a cliffhanger, but it would have been nice to get a glimpse of the happy couple a few months or years down the line. So the story was tied up but just not in a pretty bow. Make sense?

story - 3.25
narrator - 3

Great New Series - Please Write More

*********NOTE: BOOK #1 IN SERIES******************

Kennedy & Luke have known each other since they were teenagers and he absolutely adored her. One night he got the courage up to sneak to her bedroom – it was his plan to reveal his feelings to court toward her. However the site that greeted him was NOT what he expected.

Years later Kennedy shows up at the rodeo where Luke and his brother are competing. She knocks on Luke's RV door and he is gobsmacked by the sight of her. She looks horrible, pale, too thin an all over mess. Desperate, she asks for a job, anything that she can do for him. Flashbacks & mistrust of Kennedy, Luke says no and closes the door on her.

Anger at Kennedy doesn't let go no matter what she does or says. However he does give her a job a place to live…

Will he ever forgive her for her past? What happens when the rodeo moves along? What will Kennedy do to support herself?

*I was given this book in exchange for my review. Emma Jay the kind of writer I love to read/listen to. I cannot wait until book number two is released.

I would recommend this book to those who like cowboy series by authors such as Vivian Arendt, and Lorelei James.

The narration was excellent and smooth. Tracey Marks smoothly transition from a female character to a male character with the ease. I am impressed.

Notes: Warning of mature themes & strong language. This definitely fits into the category for mature audiences – 18 years old or older.

Great love story

Tracy Marks did an excellent job bringing this story to life. I love the strong woman Kennedy is despite her situation. After having her life fall apart she ends up asking an old friend for help. Luke has been in with her since he was 18. He is angry with her now for not telling him of her fathers illness allowing him the chance to say goodbye but that doesn't last long. This is a steaming hot love story, the chemistry between these two lights the pages on fire. I couldn't stop listening to it and it's all I thought about when I wasn't. I love a handsome gentleman cowboy and Luke definitely fits the bill.

Luke needs to be more open minded . . .

Kennedy had been through a lot to turn to her last resort. But that last resort wanted nothing to do with her. So just how far was she willing to go. Luke was unwilling to listen to Kennedy when she came to him. He didn't understand just how down on her luck she was until he so the length she was willing to go but unwilling at the same time.

Narrator Tracy Marks did a good job with giving voice to the characters. It was easy to distinguish between male and female but also two characters of the same gender.

One hell of a ride....

What made the experience of listening to At the Cowboy's Mercy the most enjoyable?

The characters were straight up with one another which is a refreshing change. There was a good back story and just enough strength in both main characters. The story was fast paced and an easy listen.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

A damsel in distress and the sexy old boyfriend to the rescue in cowboy boots....who wouldn't love that.

Which character – as performed by Tracy Marks – was your favorite?

Tracy did a fantastic job with all of the characters and each was bought to life by her skill.

Any additional comments?

The ending was too abrupt. Please wrap it up all nicely so we feel like the characters lived happily ever after - this is romance and fiction after all.
