The North is under siege by Octagon the Bitter and his horde of twisted monsters. All but two cities have fallen and their forces are dwindling by the day. With little choice remaining, Morgan sets out on his own to try and convince the rulers of the other Kingdoms to join in their cause. Convincing rulers who have been at each other's throats for centuries will not be easy, and Morgan has doubts as to whether they'll even listen. Still, for the sake of everyone in the Five Kingdoms, he has to try, even if it costs him everything.

Safaia, Tero, and Garasu are on a collision course, and the clans of Buryoku scramble to brace for the impact. While Safaia is in an uproar, Roy heads into an ancient library in search of the secrets of advancement and the Path to Gray-Belt. What he discovers may change the course of Buryoku's history forevermore.

Zundy has always been different. As a pal-tee, a distant cousin to the dwarves, he, and all others of his race, absorb traits from the very first item they touch upon birth. Instead of absorbing the essence of stone, or steel, like most others in his town, Zundy accidentally absorbed those of a beetle. Arbor, now a member of the Nobility, heads off to his manor to begin his new life as a Viscount. The fate of his sister, whose search is now aided by his noble status, plagues his every waking moment. When a nearby village head pleads for his aid in dealing with a dangerous monster, Arbor jumps at the opportunity, glad for the distraction.

With the weapon he needs to destroy the gods now in his possession, Morgan sets off for Faeland once again. However, this time, he does not go alone. Representatives of each kingdom join him, in an attempt to scout the area and collect the ingredients needed to replicate Ivaldi's formula. As soon as he departs, Katherine receives an urgent summons from Hu Kiln, king of the West Kingdom.

After exiting the Trials, Dabu and Uhane set off in pursuit of Phoenix. However, after encountering a magically charged sandstorm, the pair find themselves far from their intended course. Running short on food and water, they have no choice but to try to find civilization. Instead, they find deserted villages, rumors of a terrifying beast that stalks the night, and no way to turn back. All they can do is forge on, both to find supplies and to discover what sort of creature can send entire villages fleeing for their lives.

When Arthur suddenly finds himself trapped in a brutal and twisted version of his favorite game, he is quickly forced to learn how to adapt to his new environment or perish. The Animal Kingdom is a wild and unforgiving place, and even the smallest hint of weakness can spell certain doom. Will he rise to the challenge and climb to the top of the food chain, or will he fall prey to someone else and end up as just another meal...?

Dragged into the video-game-like world of Somerset, he is constantly having his patience and sanity tested by the world's sheer tropiness and unoriginality. Like, for example, how Princess Willow of the East was kidnapped just a few hours after asking for his help in saving her kingdom. Or, how seemingly no one, including the all-powerful Adventurers Guild, can do anything about it.

Roy faces a new threat outside the Ghost's Tower as death marches on Mountain Moore. Meanwhile, on the continent of Garasu, Doragon and Hoshi battle a host of demons, all trying to break the walls of their fortress city.
