Brian is a genre-obsessed writer who has done time in the trenches in film, television, and digital media. Jim Zub is a writer, artist and art instructor based in Toronto, Canada. Over the past twenty years he’s worked for a diverse array of publishing, movie and video game clients including Marvel, DC Comics, Disney, Capcom, Hasbro, Cartoon Network, and Bandai-Namco.

He juggles his time between being a freelance comic writer and a professor teaching drawing and storytelling courses in Seneca Polytechnic’s award-winning Animation program.

His current comic projects include acting as the flagship writer for Conan the Barbarian, the monthly adventures of Robert E. Howard’s legendary sword & sorcery hero.

A former crime reporter turned Ringo Award-winning comic book creator, David Pepose has written on hit titles such as Space Ghost, Punisher, Savage Avengers, Moon Knight: City of the Dead, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Avengers Unlimited, and Darth Vader: Black, White & Red, as well as acclaimed original series Spencer & Locke, Going to the Chapel, Grand Theft Astro, The O.Z., Scout’s Honor, The Devil That Wears My Face, and more.

David’s books have appeared in The Hollywood Reporter, Forbes, and io9, and have ranked on Barnes & Noble’s Best Comics and Graphic Novels list. His writing has been called “stunningly subversive” by IGN and “an absurdly good time” by Nerdist, while Syfy has described his work as as “utterly insane or pure genius (or admittedly, maybe both).”

In addition to developing properties for comics, TV, and film, he has also worked for CBS, Netflix, and Universal Studios. Raised in St. Louis, David currently resides in sunny Los Angeles, where he lives with his understanding wife, their rambunctious terrier, and at least six deadlines.

Max Hoven, author of It Eats What Feeds It with Boom Studios and his latest Liquid Kill with Massive Publishing. Max stopped by to share his latest venture, Socko Press, a new kind of publisher looking to help indie comic creators reach a broader audience while being profitable.

What is Socko Press? (“Socko” is slang for “extremely effective or impressive”) A small-press independent (creator-owned) comic, manga, & graphic novel publisher. What niche? Small (manga sized) books and creator-focused contracts. We’re focused on serving the creator rather than IP ownership.

We act as a “first-step” publisher, dedicated to leveling up the career of each author/creator and establishing a core audience for their IP. All physical units will be printed as English-language Japanese tankobon-sized (5 x 7.5) black & white comics and graphic novels (aka manga).
