Vulnerability Hangovers: Sounds Like a YOU Problem

  • Summary

  • You went there; you said the True Thing about yourself - and the reaction is an "emotional cringe." Have you ever felt judged or criticized after a moment of vulnerability? If you've experienced "sharer's remorse" after opening up, rest assured you are not alone!

A vulnerability hangover is characterized by feelings of shame, guilt, regret, and fear that usually occur in the aftermath of taking an emotional risk, a temporary state of emotional self-doubt after being vulnerable with another person or group. (THANK YOU (again!) to Dr. Brené Brown for gifting us with the language to describe the discomfort.)

While J.T. thinks this condition might be reserved for Jordan's over-sharing tendencies, she feels her highly sensitive dude is susceptible to feeling the hangover of being judged for his authenticity.

    In this episode, discover:

    - What if my nature isn't on brand with society?

    - How culture is responsible for our hangover

    - Is judgment (or lack of acceptance) a reflection of another's personal shame?

    - Vulnerability as a measure of courage (shoutout Dr. Brené!)

    - What does it take to feel accepted? Validating our authenticity

    - Hangover cures: self-compassion, seek support, channel of forgiveness, self-care

    - Build gradual trust one step at a time

    - The power of being YOU and ability to liberate others
