  • Ed Morrissey: The Genius of "What Would You Say You Do Here"?
    Feb 25 2025

Question: What do you do when dealing with a dysfunctional organization?

Answer: Question everything. And then measure everything.

Elon Musk, Donald Trump’s DOGE special consultant, sent out an e-mail demand for all federal employees to detail their previous week’s work. Private sector workers would hardly blink at such a request for accountability. Bureaucrats and their Democrat allies acted as though the world had come to an end.

This gives voters a demonstration of why accountability is needed, and why the bloated deep state needs deep cuts. Seventy-six percent of voters in a new Harvard-Harris poll back Trump and Musk in efforts to find and eliminate fraud and waste in government – and this is just the first step.

"What would you say you do here" is a question that federal bureaucrats better get used to answering ... or start looking for work elsewhere. And they will soon find out that such scrutiny is the norm, not the exception, for all of us NOT in the government sector.

  • Hugh Hewitt: Giving Shuttle Diplomacy a Chance
    Feb 24 2025

In his press briefing on Wednesday last week, President Trump commented on the Russia and Ukraine war and the administration’s first steps to try to end that conflict.

The most notable aspect of the presser is that we don’t see what he sees about Ukraine’s war of survival. The level of “awful” is probably off the charts. I fear some in legacy media would rather the President fail than Ukraine survive. There is an eagerness for catastrophe to befall 45/ 47 even if it also means a disaster for Ukraine.

We are witnessing not just “shuttle diplomacy” underway, but “shuttles diplomacy”—Secretary Rubio, National Security Advisor Waltz, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff are headed over here, while Vice President Vance and Ret. General Kellogg are headed over there.

There is an eagerness on the part of legacy media to create conflict among allies that is astonishing. This is not a movie to be reviewed or a video game. The casualties are so enormous that anyone on the outside trying to look in could, perhaps, give it a rest until, say, Easter?

  • Hugh Hewitt: Time for Choosing
    Feb 20 2025

The budget committee of the House of Representatives has now passed a budget resolution. It now heads to the House’s full floor.

Some GOP “moderates” don’t like it; some “fiscal hawks” don’t like it. It is, however, the “Sorcerer’s Stone” for the House and Senate Republican caucuses. Failure to pass it would be catastrophic for the country and the party. Anyone voting against it can expect a primary challenge in 2026.

It’s a time for choosing. The stakes are enormous.

The critical parts of that campaign agenda are: A huge increase in resources to secure the border, detain illegal immigrants and deport dangerous migrants.

Also on the Trump agenda: An enormous increase in defense spending—especially for the Navy and its ship procurement and maintenance outlays.

President Donald Trump has made his priorities clear. Now, it’s up to the GOP Congressional majorities to carry things through. It begins with the Budget Resolution.
