After expanding on the genuinely shocking rate at which Trump is executing the Project 2025 blueprint, Figueredo and Emma look to the impact of the Trump regime on emboldening cultures of bigotry in the US, from DHS’ discrimination against queer folks to the suicide of a young Latina child after facing rampant anti-immigrant bigotry, before wrapping up the interview by emphasizing the need for the Democratic Party to advance an agenda of actual political change if they want to escape from the fascist quagmire of the last few election cycles. Van Lathan and Emma then dive deep into the state (surprisingly positive) of the Leftist media ecosystem, the utter failure of the Democratic Party to identify, speak to, or govern for their base, and why MAGA’s obsession with liberal defectors is so enchanting to reactionary media figures. Lathan implores Emma to dip her podcasting toes into pop culture, before wrapping up by touching on what he learned from covering Gaza. Then, she speaks with Tyler Vasseur, shop steward with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Branch 9, to discuss the NALC's recent decision to reject a tentative contract deal with the United States Postal Service. First, Emma runs through updates on Trump’s plummeting approval rating, Hannity’s sit down with the Trump/Musk regime, Trump’s government funding freeze, Trump’s support for Russia, Trump’s agency raids, Trump’s cabinet confirmations, record credit card debt, dropping homicide rates, Brazil’s systems of political accountability, and Kansas’ gender-affirming care ban, before watching Elon and Trump blatantly lie about their cost-cutting efforts on Hannity. Next, Vasseur dives deep into the National Association of Letter Carrier’s historic “No” vote on a contract with USPS after nearly two years of negotiations, highlighting various failures in the agreement, including keeping wages in line with inflation. After expanding on the “Vote No” campaign efforts, Tyler unpacks why their biggest push in this bargaining process is for the right to strike, with the ongoing bargaining effort now lasting well over 600 days, wrapping up the show by highlighting coming rallies to support NALC’s fight. First, Emma dives into Elon Musk and Trump press secretary Karoline Leavitt lying about social security and the supposed tens of millions of dead people receiving benefits, debunking those outlandish claims. Then Emma speaks with Molly and they discuss the Trump administration and its associates' connections to the crypto industry, in particular their animosity towards regulatory agencies like the FDIC & CFPB. First, they run through updates on Hegseth’s struggle with diplomacy, the House GOP’s austerity push, the ICC, Elon’s attacks on the DOE, pushback to Trump and Musk, the State Department’s multi-hundred-million dollar Tesla purchase, and the role of abortion bans in increasing infant mortality, before parsing through the mass resignations and firings developing in the DOJ and the SDNY amid Donald Trump’s blatant attempt to blackmail and extort Eric Adams. Katelyn Burns then joins, diving right into the devastating moment of confusion and fear facing trans people in the US in the wake of myriad executive orders from Trump targeting everything from access to gender-affirming care to gender markers on federal IDs, zeroing in on the latter as she and Emma unpack how passports have served (since the Obama Administration) as a central safety line for trans people in red states, not only allowing them freedom of movement in line with their identity but providing security against employment discrimination and more. After expanding on the role of unions in bolstering protections for their trans workers (particularly in the realm of healthcare) and the genuinely dangerous implications of Trump’s executive order on the ability of the government to find and help missing trans children, Burns looks to the role of mainstream liberal media – with a specific focus on the New York Times – in taking vitriolic anti-trans bigotry from fringe to mainstream, legitimizing all of the policies that they decry as inhumane now that they’re coming from Trump, wrapping up with the emphasis that the movement for trans rights has not been radicalizing – with their asks the same today as they were half a century ago – but rather the backlash to them has. Jamie Tahsin and Matt Shea then walk Emma through their investigative work into Andrew Tate and the Manosphere, first stepping back to assess what the Manosphere is – an industry capitalizing on the alienation and isolation of young men to bring them into a sphere of exploiting women, be it the pickup artists of the aughts or the red pill influencers of today – and how Andrew Tate was able to take it to the mainstream level with the help of millions of dollars and Social Media’s obsession with controversy, pushing himself to be, at certain points in 2022, the most googled man on the internet, pushing a gaudy and extravagant lifestyle grounded in a perverse, misogynistic, and wildly patriarchal ideology. Expanding on this, Tahsin and Shea dissect the actual business structure of Tate’s empire, employing scammy and MLM-esque practices from video courses to a physical “test” in the wilderness of Romania, all built around training and ingratiating men into the world of finding vulnerable women to be groomed and sex trafficked, while his strong connections to political forces (largely the Trump regime in the US) legitimized this push to turn the aggrievements of the patriarchy into a full-scale political movement. After expanding on some of the major revelations of their investigation – from the conscious pride around the promulgation of sex trafficking tactics to the insane characters Tate surrounded himself with – Matt and Jamie wrap up with the emphasis that Tate’s scam sought not just to groom women into lives of exploitation, but young men into lives of hate, fear, and insecurity. Then, he speaks with Sam Bagenstos, law professor at the University of Michigan, author of the Inside/Outside newsletter, to discuss the Trump administration's executive orders and their defeats in the courts so far. First, Sam runs through updates on Trump’s inflation boom, the destruction of the CFPB, Trump’s DOGE letter, Musk’s severe lack-of-fraud, Musk’s access to the Treasury’s payment systems, Trump’s attacks on the CDC, FDA, and NIH, Trump’s spending freeze, the destruction of USAID, GOP’s reconciliation, and Israel’s inability to refrain from genocide even for the sake of ethnic cleansing, before expanding on the growing resentment among Democratic leadership that their constituents might ask something of them, and Elon Musk’s complete inability to find fraud in the US Government (despite everything the media has been saying). MT Snyder then joins, diving right into the Trump Administration’s major attacks on the NLRB, firing board member Gwynne Wilcox and leaving the board unable to meet quorum, effectively halting labor law enforcement in the US, before shifting focus to federal workers as a whole, as she walks through the major coercion and fear-mongering from the Trump administration over Elon Musk’s legally-dubious attempt to push federal workers out of the government, including highlighting the very same email Musk gave to Twitter employees upon his purchase, which, unsurprisingly, never saw its promises paid out. After expanding on the genuine pain and fear being experienced by federal workers whose livelihood is under threat, Snyder expands on the action being planned by federal unions, the importance of public support for our federal workers, and how those of us on the outside can help in this fight. Next, Professor Sam Bagenstos jumps right into the generational devastation that the Trump regime’s destruction of the administrative state is likely to create, with the process of building up these systems drastically more complicated than destroying them, before stepping back to unpack the idea that the Trump/Musk Administration is truly, and unapologetically lawless, touching on their obvious fear and impotency in the face of any pushback, public or institutional. After briefly exploring the importance of organizing and centering pushback from the public, Professor Bagenstos examines a growing tension in the administration over the legalist line of thought promulgated by Trump’s Heritage Foundation backers and the “move fast and break things” ideology of Elon Musk and Silicon Valley. Wrapping up, Sam and Sam discuss the genuine problems of inefficiency that face US bureaucracy, the importance of branding this destructive “solution” advanced by Trump and Musk as illegal, and the necessity of Democrats to get over their fear of big government.
