The Infected Trilogy

By: Scott Sigler
  • Summary

  • The Infected Trilogy is a three-book audio fiction series from #1 New York Times bestselling novelist Scott Sigler. "Part Stephen King, part Chuck Palahniuk, INFECTED blends science fiction and horror into a pulpy masterpiece of action, terror, and suspense.” James Rollins, New York Times bestselling author of The Judas Strain and Black Order “INFECTED is a marvel of gonzo, in-your-face, up-to-the-minute terror.” Lincoln Child, New York Times bestselling author of Deep Storm and Death Match "INFECTED is a bucking pulp pony that throws you this way and that, and just when you think you've got your balance, that ole pony bucks the other way. It’s one hell of an exhilarating ride." Joe R. Lansdale, World Horror Convention Grand Master and six-time Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Bubba Ho-Tep and Hap & Leonard SEASON 1: INFECTED Across America, a mysterious disease turns ordinary people into raving murderers who inflict brutal horrors on strangers, themselves, and even their own families. Working under the government’s shroud of secrecy, CIA operative Dew Phillips crisscrosses the country trying in vain to capture a live victim. With only decomposing corpses for clues, CDC epidemiologist Margaret Montoya races to analyze the science behind this deadly pathogen. She learns that these killers all have one thing in common – they’ve been contaminated by a bioengineered parasite, shaped by a complexity far beyond the limits of known science. Meanwhile Perry Dawsey – a hulking former football star now resigned to life as a cubicle-bound desk jockey – awakens one morning to find several mysterious welts growing on his body. Soon Perry finds himself acting and thinking strangely, hearing voices . . . he is infected. The fate of the human race hinges on the bloody war Perry must wage with his own body, because the parasites want something from him, something that goes beyond mere murder. SEASON 2: CONTAGIOUS The brutal epidemic sweeping America is driven not by evolution, but rather by some unknown, malevolent intelligence. Standing against this unimaginable threat is a small group assembled under the strictest secrecy. Hulking former football star Perry Dawsey possesses an unexplainable ability to locate the disease’s hosts. Violent and unpredictable, Dawsey is both the nation’s best hope and a terrifying liability. Hardened CIA veteran Dew Phillips must somehow forge a connection with Perry if they’re going to stand a chance against this maddeningly adaptable opponent. Working with them is Margaret Montoya, a brilliant epidemiologist who fights for a cure even as she reels under the weight of endless horrors. This trio has kept humanity in the game, but when the disease becomes contagious, it triggers a fast countdown to Armageddon. SEASON 3: PANDEMIC To some, Doctor Margaret Montoya is a hero — a brilliant scientist who saved the human race from an alien intelligence determined to exterminate all of humanity. To others, she’s a monster—a mass murderer single-handedly responsible for the worst atrocity ever to take place on American soil. All Margaret knows is that she’s broken. The blood of a million deaths stain her hands. Endless guilt and crippling nightmares chew at her, take pieces of her soul, drown her in self-hatred so crippling she can't salvage her marriage, let alone be even a shadow of the warrior she once was. But Margaret is about to be called into action again. Because before the murderous intelligence was destroyed, it launched one last payload — a soda can–sized container filled with deadly microorganisms that makes humans feed upon their own kind. Season 1: INFECTED — Across America, a mysterious disease is turning ordinary people into raving, paranoid murderers who inflict brutal horrors on strangers, themselves, and even their own families. Working under the government’s shroud of secrecy, CIA operative Dew Phillips crisscrosses the country trying in vain to capture a live victim. With only decomposing corpses for clues, CDC epidemiologist Margaret Montoya races to analyze the science behind this deadly pathogen. She discovers that these killers all have one thing in common – they’ve been contaminated by a bioengineered parasite shaped by a complexity far beyond the limits of known science. Meanwhile, Perry Dawsey – a hulking former football star now resigned to life as a cubicle-bound desk jockey – awakens one morning to find several mysterious welts growing on his body. Soon Perry finds himself acting and thinking strangely, hearing voices telling him to do bad things. The fate of the human race may well depend on the bloody war Perry must wage with his own body because the parasites want something from him that goes beyond mere murder. Perry Dawsey is infected. He is infected with a disease that thinks, a disease that talks, and if he’s lucky, he’ll die before it becomes a disease … that walks. Fun,entertaining

The book is genuinely fun. It isn't deep science , which is my typical read, but I did laugh and panic right along with the characters. I listen to books while I do pottery and I didn't think I'd get into this but it zoomed along and I'll listen to the rest of the series. Sigler admits that his female voices are not his strong suit but his voices were actually pretty charmingly 'off' and if you take the reading and story for what it is, fun...you'll have a good time. if you like 'real' science or story lines, skip it...you just won't get it. Also fun that it takes place in Ann Arbor. Was surprised by the local connection. Scott, if you are reading this, I rented my first apartment from Triangle!

Entertaining

I understand why the is given a hard time for his voice acting but, I still enjoyed listening to the first book. I am fairly picky when it comes to narrators, so the fact that I am starting the second one says a lot about how entertaining and intriguing the characters and storyline is.

A great concept with many highlights…

Scott builds beautiful story arches, complex characters, and historically realistic sci-fi. But I am SO glad I read/heard The Crypt before listening to this podcast/book series. I’m a new follower of Scott, but I am an avid (mostly hard science) sci-fi fan of many years.

Narration aside (he reads his work honestly, as he writes), this book 1 storyline is shockingly flat for some characters. Borderline damsel-in-distress/easy listening sci fi 101 exhausting. I may have missed a beat, and I respect writing at varying levels to meet different audiences, but wow.

The Crypt put the best and worst of humanity on display through so many individual voices and characters, I’ve listened through it 3 times.

And these characters feel pale in comparison. The women in particular are written so poorly in book one I want to bail out from lady-trope exhaustion. Woof, literally who doesn’t need saving. I’m staying optimistic…but I’m also waiting for the next Crypt book.

One Latin mistake that made me laugh

"E Unum Pluribus" should be "E Unus Pluribum," unless the artist didn't know how Latin declension and syntax works... Which makes sense lol.

Otherwise I loved this episode 🤌

triangular terror

great books. good humor, believable science, horrific scenes and plenty of stuff to make you say wtf... I don't personally mind Scott's narrating, but I did think it was an odd choice to have a new narrator read the third book. I did enjoy that narrator, respectively, but I think it would have been better to be consistent through all three books. Can't really complain though. I was happy to listen to these books through podcasts.

Stopped listening after the third slur

Could not finish listening. The story was intriguing, but the narration was awful. I probably could have made it through if it wasn't for the constant slurs and blatant homophobia.
