The Beer Engine

By: Griff & Tony
  • Summary

  • Every bar worth its salt has its regulars. Cheers had Cliff and Norm, Moe's had Barney and Homer and Lenny and Carl and the guy with the hat and the green vest and that one balding guy (?). Barstool Sports has that maniac who rates pizza and goes on alt-right tirades. Hey, but what if the regulars came to you and maybe the conversations were recorded? Maybe they talked about their beers, and they might have unusual hobbies or know too much about buying beer on the internet. Tony and Griff are the regulars at the bar chatting over a few cold ones about beer, or whatever else is going on. Belly up, crack open a Hamm's and feel free to eavesdrop on what these two drunks are going on about today.

  • Seven Riddles for Seven Days
    Jan 23 2025

The days of the week might seem mundane, but hidden within their names lies a world of cryptic clues waiting to be unraveled. From celestial bodies to Norse gods, each day carries a secret story. Ready to flex your puzzle-solving muscles? Let’s explore the week in riddles, one cryptic clue at a time.

    Sun’s blaze leads the way

A fiery orb in the sky lends its name to the first day. Ancient cultures worshipped it as a life-giver, while modern calendars make it the day of rest—or brunch, depending on your vibe. Its six letters shine bright, warming up the week with promise.

Norse god takes a moment to reflect

In Norse mythology, a one-eyed deity of wisdom and war holds the key to this day. Swap his vowels, and you’re left with a day that invites pause and contemplation, often accompanied by the first yawn of the workweek. Can you name this thoughtful six-letter clue?

    Hump conquered by lightning-fast courier

Midweek feels like a mountain to climb, but a messenger of the gods rushes to your aid. Known for speed and cunning, this Roman deity lends their name to the day that signals the downhill slide toward the weekend. What’s the seven-letter answer to this electrifying riddle?

    Thor’s hammer strikes

The thunderous sound of Mjölnir echoes through this day. It’s the only weekday bearing the name of a Norse god famous for storms and strength. Eight letters long, it’s a day that demands action and power. What day does Thor wield his hammer?

    Goddess of love grants indulgence

This day owes its name to the Roman goddess of love, beauty, and pleasure. Her name rhymes with wine, a fitting symbol for indulgence at the week’s end. Six letters hold the answer, ushering in relaxation and revelry.

Seven days, seven puzzles, each with a story to tell. Whether you solved them all or cracked a few, cryptic clues remind us there’s always more to discover beneath the surface of even the most familiar things. Which day’s riddle stumped you, and which came easily?

  • Eating Dinner With Beloved Family
    Jan 16 2025

The rising price of eggs is absolutely maddening, and it feels like an unnecessary burden on everyday people. Eggs, a staple in most households, have become a luxury item for many families, forcing tough choices between affordability and nutrition. What used to be a reliable, low-cost source of protein has been turned into another example of how basic needs are increasingly out of reach. It's infuriating to see prices soar without clear solutions or accountability from those who hold the power to address these issues.

While several factors contribute to the problem, including supply chain disruptions, avian flu outbreaks, and inflation, much of the blame falls on corporations and policymakers who fail to mitigate the impact on consumers. Large agribusinesses prioritize profits over stabilizing supply chains, while policymakers seem disconnected from the reality of struggling families. Instead of enacting meaningful measures to curb price hikes or support local farming initiatives, they leave everyday people scrambling to make ends meet. It’s a systemic failure, and the lack of action only deepens the frustration.
