Annie (1982) is one of my beloved childhood movies. Set in 1930s New York in a time of great poverty, this hilarious and yet sinister musical follows the adventure of little orphan Annie, as she is swept from the rooms of the Hudson Street Orphanage to the halls of wealth and power. Annie, based on the 1977 Broadway show, brought us memorable classics such as "Tomorrow" and "Hard Knock Life." This apparently simple tale challenges us with themes of taming the wild side of human nature, anger, narcissism, wealth and power, and revealing what is ordinarily hidden from view.
