    We discuss the 2023 double homicide in an affluent neighborhood in Herndon, Virginia, in which 23-year-old Brazilian au pair Juliana Peres Magalhães and her 39-year-old married lover, lured in Joseph Ryan, who had a profile on the fetish website FetLife, to restrain Banfield’s wife, Christine, for rough sex. Meanwhile, Ryan was being framed for the murder of Christine Banfield. At the same time, the murder-plotting lovers claimed self-defense in the fatal stabbing and shooting of Christine Banfield and Joseph Ryan, both unwitting and innocent victims at the time of their murders.
