Genesis 27 recounts how Jacob, with the help of his mother Rebekah, deceives his father Isaac to receive the blessing intended for his brother Esau. Isaac, old and nearly blind, asks Esau to hunt game and prepare a meal so he can bless him, but Rebekah helps Jacob disguise himself as Esau to receive the blessing instead. When Esau learns of the deception, he is furious and plans to harm Jacob, prompting Rebekah to send Jacob away to her brother Laban for safety.
