    In Episode 390 Jeff Belanger and Ray Auger explore the story of Dr. Horace Wells of Hartford, Connecticut, a dentist who attended a nitrous oxide expedition in 1844. Though the performance was a laughing matter, Dr. Wells took what he saw seriously. He was inspired to try using the gas in his dental practice. Though he sought fame and fortune, Wells spiraled downward into darkness.

Going by the name Publick Universal Friend, this pronounless religious leader started a movement in the late 1700s, then traveled New England ready to perform miracles like walking on water and resurrecting the dead. To many, this person was a fraud and cult leader, to others, this person had the spiritual answers they were seeking. This episode first aired August 19, 2021

  • The Haunting of the Nathanael Greene Homestead

Built in 1770, the stately Colonial home was a castle that oversaw the Greene’s iron forge empire. Many triumphs and tragedies graced this home over the centuries, and today they say the places is haunted by unexplained sites, sounds, and even smells.

great research & narration. Jeff and Ray bring history alive for us. New Englanders will know location, but maybe not the legends.

Always Interesting and Entertaining

Love hearing all the strange stories and history of the area. Been a New Englander my whole life (63 years) and there is some strange lore in this neck of the woods. Jeff and Ray do a great job researching and presenting these tales.
