The Language of Evidence

By: Alex Morozov
  • Summary

  • I look up from my laptop at the people around me in a cafe. I think about the many paths their health can take. Each decision they make - getting a test or a procedure, starting or stopping a medication, diet or exercise - even the decision to sit in the cafe today - will put them on a different path and impact their future, maybe in dramatic ways. We all face these decisions. “Could my headache mean that I have a brain tumor?” “At what age should I get a colonoscopy?” “What are the usual symptoms of my condition?” “Will this treatment help me, and what are the side effects?” This is where medical evidence comes in. It is our time machine, our crystal ball. We take learnings from the past - experiences of generations of people who came before us, and their medical providers - and use those learnings to support our beliefs about the future. In this Podcast, we will attempt to engage, include and reconcile. Maybe one trusts science, maybe one does not. Maybe one believes that misinformation is spread by social media, or maybe by the government. Evidence is nonpartisan and not controversial. We all need to dig deeper. Not stopping at our beliefs, but trying to understand what justifies our beliefs - that's what evidence is. It's a language we all need to learn - "The Language of Evidence." Why is modern medicine so expensive? How do we address horrific disparities in care? How do we choose the right diet and exercise for us and our loved ones? How do we think about Indigenous, Complementary and Alternative medicine? And critically, how do we collaborate with our healthcare providers - how to prepare for office visits, what questions to ask, how to grapple with limitations of medical knowledge, and how to be better advocates for ourselves and our families. Finally, the healthcare community itself - both the “generators of evidence,” i.e. clinical research professionals, and “consumers of evidence,” healthcare workers - will be curious about the history and the future of this field. And yes, there is a call to action. Status quo is not acceptable. Care gaps are too wide, and largely unknown. Misunderstanding and mistrust run deep. Healthcare experts and nonexperts alike will be captivated by a unifying solution so simple yet profound: The Language of Evidence.

Welcome to the Language of Evidence. I’m the host, Alex Morozov. I think this is the only time I will be by myself, in the future we will have guests. If any of you want to be a guest, please let me know - you can reach me at alex.morozov@evivapartners.org.

This episode is unusual. I will be releasing the Part 1 recording (with my comments) of a very important event that occurred in Washington, DC on Thursday, February 13 - the press launch of MAHA Alliance, with Senator Ron Johnson, then its CEO Del Bigtree, and then Q and A. We will go over what MAHA is - “Make America Healthy Again” - Senator Ron Johnson called it “an enormous and growing movement.”

If you think this is about vaccines, you are mistaken. It’s about all of science and medicine. And if you think that it’s a US-only issue, you are also mistaken. This is a global issue.

I consider this press conference the first indication of what we are experiencing with the appointment of RFK Jr as Secretary of Health and Human Services - a revolt against science, medicine and the media. Many people will die.

Therefore, I am launching a movement called #MAHAKILLS - opposing the revolt against science, medicine and the media.. If you want to join, please reach out - again, alex.morozov@evivapartners.org - you can do this confidentially if you are afraid of being fired, and I will not disclose your name.

And incidentally, if you have any tips or confidential information, you can send them to me via anonymized email such as proton. In fact people already started to send me those.
