  • Summary

  • Heed The Word is the online Bible teaching ministry of Pastor Ken Davis of Calvary Chapel Southwest Metro, a non-denominational church in Joshua, Texas. We are committed to bringing our listeners the Word of God by simply teaching the Bible simply. It is our hope that these broadcasts will encourage you to believe in Jesus Christ, and to grow as His disciple as you walk worthy of the calling with which we have been called.

Our latest episodes are a rebroadcast of our "Heed the Word" radio program. These episodes were originally broadcast on KDKR. At that time our church was located in Burleson, Texas though we have since relocated to Joshua. Additionally, these episodes indicate that CD copies can be ordered, but as they are now available through our podcast, we are no longer offering physical copies of these messages. It is our continued hope that these Bible teachings are an encouragement to you and we appreciate you joining us here on Heed the Word!

  • ACTS: A Simple Prayer Framework for Every Believer
    Mar 12 2025

Prayer isn't optional but foundational to spiritual growth, requiring us to recognize it as a consistent discipline rather than an occasional practice. Jesus provides both a model and mindset for effective prayer that transforms our relationship with God and others.

    • The ACTS prayer framework (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) offers a simple structure for balanced prayer
    • Jesus consistently said "when you pray" not "if you pray," establishing prayer as expected Christian behavior
    • Prayer should acknowledge God as Father while respecting His sovereignty and kingship
    • Forgiveness isn't optional—we must forgive others if we expect God's forgiveness
    • Fasting means denying our flesh something it wants to focus on seeking God
    • Romans 12 calls us to be "living sacrifices," allowing God to transform us
    • Spiritual growth requires letting go of self and surrendering to God's work
    • Heaven must be in us before we can be in heaven

  • Growing in Christ: From Knowledge to Action
    Mar 9 2025

Pastor Ken explores the foundational elements of spiritual growth, emphasizing that bearing fruit in our faith requires more than just hearing the gospel—it demands transformation through application and service to others.

    • Biblical growth comes through shifting focus from self to God
    • Christians cannot grow in isolation but need community
    • Our spiritual gifts are given to serve others, not ourselves
    • Service to other believers is ultimately service to God
    • Showing mercy and love must be done with genuine cheerfulness
    • Seeking personal vengeance is unnecessary—justice belongs to God
    • Knowledge of God must be followed by action to receive more knowledge
    • Christian growth follows a cycle: knowledge → action → more knowledge
    • Believers must stay rooted in faith to continue growing
    • No sin is too great that God won't welcome us back when we repent
