There are three members of the Usher family still living, two in direct descent, the Lady Madeleine and her twin brother Roderick. Deana was engaged to marry Roderick long before she knew her cousin, it is the custom for the Usher family to intermarry. The Lady Madeleine has been confined to her bed these last few weeks, waiting for death.
