About the Creator

Lissa Rovetch is an award-winning children’s book author and illustrator with over 20 picture, chapter, and poetry books, including Hot Dog and Bob, Trigwater Did It, Cora and the Elephants, Ook the Book, Sweet Dreams Little One, and There Was a Man Who Loved a Rat. She created the Highlights magazine series Ask Arizona and has written a new story every month for 15 years. She is also the creator of Tex and Indi, an Ask Arizona spinoff for Highlights’s High Five magazine. She created, wrote, and illustrated Kate ‘n Toady, a monthly series that ran in Cricket’s Ladybug magazine for nine years. Lissa designed toys and games for George Lucas; developed concepts and wrote scripts for Electronic Arts, Broderbund, Sega, Leapfrog, and Hasbro; and worked on computer games and television shows for Mattel. She has led workshops and assemblies for schoolchildren across the country, taught writing and illustration classes at the California College of Art, and spent eight years helping the moviemakers at Pixar tell their stories. Lissa studied psychology and behavioral biology at the New School for Social Research, and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design. She has two children, and lives just over the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco.

About the Co-writer

Emily Rovetch Whitman is an award-winning author of books for children and teens. Her middle-grade novel The Turning, a contemporary tale inspired by Celtic folklore, won the 2019 Oregon Book Award for Children’s Literature and the Oregon Spirit Book Award. Her YA novels are Radiant Darkness, voted number one by independent booksellers on the IndieBound Kid’s Next List, and Wildwing, winner of an Oregon Book Award and a Bankstreet College Best Children’s Book. Emily graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College with a degree in history and literature, and did graduate work in history at UC Berkeley. She has worked for Multnomah County Library in reference, readers’ advisory, and leading story times for children and their families, and written K-12 educational materials for CTB/McGraw Hill. Emily currently leads sold-out workshops on writing middle-grade and young-adult novels at The Attic Institute, a writing center praised by Bustle for courses "famous for their quality and their power to motivate independent writers." Emily’s visits to elementary and middle schools inspire excitement about books, writing, and finding your own voice. She lives with her family in Portland, Oregon. emilywhitman.com
