Publisher's summary

Red never shies away from a challenge. Never.

But when Miss Hannah St. John strides into his life demanding - yes, demanding - he help her, he's certain she's more challenge than even he can handle.

Hannah is determined to transport an artifact from France - one that will change everything - even if it means working with a lawless man like Red. Nothing is more important than preserving history. Nothing. Not even the touch of a smuggler who inconceivably makes her stomach twist.

When it becomes clear the irritating bluestocking will do anything for this blasted artifact and needs saving from herself, the earl-turned-smuggler steps in. Carting a cursed stone across the country with a know-it-all woman is not Red's idea of fun, particularly when their journey runs far from smoothly...so why does he find himself enjoying her company just a little too much?

Blue stocking vs Pirate

This is a fast paced and clever story. I thought the narrator was wonderful. My only issue is the editing. There were 4 times when a sentence or phrase was repeated multiple times that I assume had to do with editing. I would still recommended this audio book.

Quite a Trip!

Hannah is a bold bluestocking on a mission to bring an important antiquity to England from France for her father. Red, actually the Earl of Redmere, is the smuggler her father wishes to transport the article from France. There is a bit of haggling and witty banter, but he finally agrees. That was the easy part. Getting the stone to London is an arduous and funny journey. The attraction between them is obvious, the chemistry strong. Will their adventure end in happily ever after? A fast-paced exciting story with strong remarkable characters.

Not my favorite book by SH..

I was tempted not to get this book because the hero’s name was Red, I thought he had red hair, and I hate red hair on a man, but I decided to get it anyway and I’m sorta glad I did. It was all about an Egyptian stone and it, supposedly, was cursed and caused one mishap after another, from the ship that went after it getting beat to hell in a squall to Red and Hannah’s troublesome trip to get the stone to London.

Oh, and he was called Red because he was the Earl of Redmere. Personally, I would have liked him to be called by his name Guy Kingsley.

It was an okay read but it didn’t have the great sexual tension I associate with Ms. Holt’s books, until 50%, which I found a little odd. And she’s gotten to where she’s making her heroines kind of plain or this one with a “strong” nose, whatever that means, and making the hero god-like. I have a hard time seeing that pairing. I’m shallow (not afraid to admit it) so I don’t want real life characters in my books: no plain heroine, no hair that’s wild and frizzy, no BBW, no curvy, just a beautiful hero and heroine.

Anyway, it was just an okay read for me, a little fun but no thrilling moments, no OMG moments, no, mystery, just a trip of 100 miles that took several days. LOL, can’t say I would like that trip, that might be my OMG moment.

As I said earlier there wasn’t any sexual tension until 50% of the story, so be patient. Then there was explicit sex. There was really no swearing to speak of.

As to the narration: Stevie Zimmerman was great! She gets better with every book she narrates. She laughs and whispers when it’s called for and that’s the two most important things to me. Also, her voices are fantastic.

Ok story, narration production issues

It was sweet, if forgettable. I do love a road trip story! Sometimes the side characters were more engaging than the main couple!

However, the production on this is truly awful. There’s an echo, there are several overlaps, and one part where the narrator just stops reading and you can hear clunking, haha. Felt like this wasn’t worth a credit for that alone.
