About this listen

Youth wasted on the young? Not in this provocative, darkly comic short story of cold-blooded dreams by the cowriter of Ant-Man and the Wasp.

In the near future, older generations can reverse the aging process through weekly transfusions while, far removed from the realities of the outside world, aimless postmillennials or “blood chickens” can live a life of guiltless bliss in idyllic youth farms. Among the first wave of volunteer donors are Billy Cantor and Frankie Halifax, who quickly bond over their dream paradise. What’s not to love? Wine tastings, parties, yoga, and all the organic avocados they can eat. Best of all: not a single care in the world until their thirty-fifth birthdays. Then Billy and Frankie discover a few cracks in nirvana. And the reality that awaits them is the furthest thing from what they imagined.

Young Blood is part 1 of the Young Blood Trilogy, a provocative and darkly satiric commentary on youthful dreams and cold-blooded reality. Read or listen in a single sitting.

Young Blood

This story was not what I was expecting. It turned out to be different and much better. It would make a great film or better still, TV show. I'm not going to spoil it for you, readers have to find out for themselves. It is a millennial dream turned nightmare, a smart, biting satire with truth. The author is the co-author of the Marvel film Ant Man and the Wasp, which I loved. I read this book using immersion reading while listening to the audiobook version. The narrators perfectly fit the material and brought the perfect balance of emotion and snark that was needed. An excellent story.

Good

Good story. My only issue was the fake “man” voice during Frankie’s chapters. Literally like nails on a chalkboard. I would have quit the book because of it, but the story kept me hooked.

Interesting but not thrilling

Interesting but not thrilling

Interesting concept of a book a short literal
Animal farm really and an enjoyable listen but not too enthralling as a story.

Go figure- Better value to buy these individually

Right now, novella one is $1, and two and three are each $1.3, meaning you can get the trilogy for $4. Which is really odd because the collection is available for the “discounted” member price of $12. If this is an error, buy all three individually now before Audible realizes its mistake. $4 is a pretty good deal for what equates to an 8 hr, three part book.

This is a briskly paced satire with occasional F bombs, and bent plots involving sex, drugs and future-millennial woes. In novella one, there’s a potentially triggering backstory about r@pe that felt like it came out of nowhere. Novella one felt a little like a modern day One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, if it starred a Dennis Leary- mouthed MC in Billie and a Chelsea Handler sounding Frankie.

Each novella gets progressively more subversive. I found these fun, darkly comedic, and yes, satirical.
On the whole, however, these were merely entertaining rather than enlightening.

Heavy with meaning

It’s pretentious and very aimed at its market. Still I really enjoyed it. (My youth was very long ago)Well written with people you can root for.

Harvesting Blood

I enjoyed this story, the narration was very good, I like how they had 3 different narrators for the 3 main characters.

Boring but good

Good narrator which is a must when listening to your books - well at least a must that the narrator not be bad!
The story was well written and different in a good way. The conversations r good and there is a an overall good flow to the whole book which is why I have it 3 stars instead of 2.
The problem is the whole thing is quite boring and lacks any kind of excitement which I feel there were plenty of areas open and available for some easy spicing up and am disappointed the author did not do that.

Great short story and perfect for a long ride

The story line is awesome and has a bit of an Orwell theme. Enjoyed the listen and the end gets dark, but worth finishing.

::trigger warning ::

This is a good short story, but let it be known that there is some moderately detailed description of sexual abuse toward the end.
