Publisher's summary

Ann Meyers Drysdale is one of the greatest stars in the history of basketball. But her rise wasn't without controversy. Her 1979 NBA bid to play with the Indiana Pacers brought a barrage of criticism. But Ann simply wanted to play among the best. She had always competed with the guys, and she never let anyone keep her down.

A female first in many categories, Ann Meyers Drysdale was the first woman ever signed to a four-year athletic scholarship to UCLA, where she remains the only four-time Bruin basketball All American, male or female. Ann was also the only woman ever asked to compete in ABC Sports' Superstars, pitting her against elite athletes like Mark Spitz, Joe Frazier, O. J. Simpson, and Mark Gastineau.

In You Let Some Girl Beat You? Ann shares with us her inspirational story for the first time.

Interesting Story Poorly Told

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Since Ann was what of the greatest and most ground breaking athletes of the last 50 years she certainly was worth a story.

What aspect of Pam Ward’s performance would you have changed?

This would have been a book that was best narrated by the author, who has an excellent speaking voice. I don't think Pam Ward was a good fit for this.

What else would you have wanted to know about Joni Ravenna and Ann Meyers Drysdale ’s life?

I would like to have had a better emphasis on Ann Meyers sports life and athletics in general.

Any additional comments?

The book seemed to be more of a parade of celebrities than having a focus on sports. In all fairness that might have been an editorial decision to broaden the audience for the book but in my opinion it just diminished it.

Ann’s amazing work ethic

I loved how open, honest and vulnerable Ann was in writing this book. I’m also from La Habra, but I learned so much about Ann in this book and I’m so glad I read it! It was very encouraging and inspiring.
