Publisher's summary
INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
In this funny and honest feel-good memoir, social media star Kacie Rose offers a refreshingly honest take on navigating a new life abroad.
In 2021, Kacie decided to leave her life as a pro dancer in New York City and move to Italy–and she never looked back. Okay, that isn't strictly true… In You Deserve Good Gelato, Kacie reflects on everything from travel fails and homesickness to the joy of culture shocks and the power of doing the s*** that scares you. Because life is too short not to.
In this joyful memoir, you will find:
- Personal essays that tell Kacie’s story and empower you to challenge yourself
- A candid outlook on life as an expat, covering everything from the terror of driving on Italian roads to the trials of speaking a new language and the genuine beauty of a slower pace of life
- Inspirational quotes that encourage you to step out of your comfort zone
By sharing her personal stories of life under the Tuscan sun, Kacie explains how travel is a privilege, why cultural differences are the coolest things in the world, and how there's a positive you can take away from literally any situation. You Deserve Good Gelato will have you taking the leap and embracing this big beautiful world that we call home.
Kacie Rose is a travel content creator living in Florence, Italy. After a life-changing solo trip and her own little "under the Tuscan sun moment," she made the official move to Italy in January 2021. Through positivity, authenticity, and humour, she began sharing culture shocks, travel tips, and life abroad across her social media, where her following quickly grew to a community of over 1.5 million people.
From explaining why you won't find "pepperoni pizza" and "lattes" in Italy, to sharing how to order a coffee, figure out the train system, and find authentic gelato, Kacie's goal is to encourage and help her community travel abroad by showing them the beauty of cultural differences, all the while reminding them that they are strong, deserving, and so much more capable than they think they are.

In her warm and witty debut about living with intrusive thoughts and anxiety, bestselling author Hayley Morris shows—with her signature sparkling humor and unflinching honesty—that being an overthinker is both a blessing and a curse. She confronts the funny (if painful) moments that arise when your brain and body refuse to cooperate and your inner voice won’t shut up. No subject is too taboo for Hayley, whether that’s forgetting how to walk when people are watching or the frustrations of dating.

Come to Paris, August 2021, when the City of Lights was still empty of tourists and a thirst for long-overdue pleasure gripped those who wandered its streets. After New York City emptied out in March 2020, Glynnis MacNicol, aged forty-six, unmarried with no children, spent sixteen months alone in her tiny Manhattan apartment. The isolation was punishing. A year without touch. Women are warned of invisibility as they age, but this was an extreme loneliness no one can prepare you for. When the opportunity to sublet a friend’s apartment in Paris arose, MacNicol jumped on it.

On Looking is structured around a series of eleven walks the author takes, mostly in her Manhattan neighborhood, with experts on a diverse range of subjects, including an urban sociologist, the well-known artist Maira Kalman, a geologist, a physician, and a sound designer. They braved the elements in search of the skins of beavers and other wild animals, to sell or barter for goods. The lifestyle of the mountain men could be harsh, existing as they did among animals, and spending most of their days and nights living and camping out in the great unexplored wilds of the Rockies.

Story
When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?

When Edmund Hillary first conquered Mt. Everest, Sherpa Tenzing Norgay was at his side. Indeed, for as long as Westerners have been climbing the Himalaya, Sherpas have been the unsung heroes in the background. In August 2008, when eleven climbers lost their lives on K2, the world’s most dangerous peak, two Sherpas survived. They had emerged from poverty and political turmoil to become two of the most skillful mountaineers on earth. Based on unprecedented access and interviews, Buried in the Sky reveals their astonishing story for the first time.

Story
For 30 years, drummer, author, and songwriter Neil Peart had wanted to write a book about "the biggest journey of all in my restless existence: the life of a touring musician." Finally, the right time, and the right tour. In the summer of 2004, after three decades, 20 gold albums, and thousands of performances, the band Rush embarked on a 30th Anniversary World Tour. The "R30" tour traveled to nine countries, where the band performed 57 shows for more than half a million fans. Uniquely, Peart chose to do his between-show traveling by motorcycle, riding 21,000 miles of back roads.

If the story doesn’t end with marriage or a child, what then? This question plagued Glynnis MacNicol on the eve of her 40th birthday. Despite a successful career as a writer, and an exciting life in New York City, Glynnis was constantly reminded she had neither of the things the world expected of a woman her age: a partner or a baby. She knew she was supposed to feel bad about this. After all, single women and those without children are often seen as objects of pity. Glynnis refused to be cast into either of those roles and yet the question remained: What now?

Is “last chance tourism” prompting a powerful change in perspective, or driving places we love further into the ground?

One of the best books I've listened to
I have been following Kacie basically since she started her social media, so I might be a bit biased in this review. But I loved it. I had a very similar experience living in Italy during covid, so it was healing to hear her story. She also gives a candid view on cultural differences between the US and Italy. Listening to this book made me want to return to Italy even more.

Loved the realness
I know what she is trying to achieve is to not be afraid of doing new things… to take risks…. I honestly just Reinforced the belief that we should all travel outside the USA and learn and embrace other cultures to learn and grow as people and stop being so oblivious thinking that the USA is the center of the world

Oh My God, this book was SOOOO GOOD!
Where to start? i followed Kacie Rose (not Kacie de pepé, hehe) a few years back via youtube algorithm. I was charmed by her sweetness and laugh out loud humor and charm of her videos of living in Italy. When she recently announced a book, I was not going to buy it thinking it's some YouTuber gimmick, but I knew how important presales of books and audiobooks were, so I preordered. It took a few months to get to it, but OMG, WHY DID I SLEEP ON THIS??? It was just what I needed to hear. I found myself rooting for Kacie with her struggles, admiring her tenacity to keep going, loving her heart, humor, and often (especially the Social Media chapter) wanting to give her the BIGGEST HUG EVER!!!! She is just so amazing and genuine and I loved her reading of it, so soothinh and warm, very much like the person behind the book. This is by far the best book I have read/listened to all year!!! And yes, can I just raise my child in Italy? LOL

Ode to the Beauty of All Things Italian
Having just gotten back to the U.S. after a week long trip to Italy (which ended with guilt-free morning breakfast gelato on the last day) this book affirmed all of the reasons why I want to go back for another visit! I appreciated the honest reflections about the challenges faced in an unfamiliar place and the encouragement that Kacie provides to “Do the stuff that scares you”. I found myself smiling throughout listening to her story as if she were sitting at my table, sharing a Spritz and telling me about her life.
