Publisher's summary

An intimate, loving portrait of Michael Jackson—illuminating the private man like never before, offering unrivaled access into a rarefied world.

Jermaine Jackson—older than Michael by four years—offers a keenly observed and surprisingly candid memoir tracing Michael’s life, starting with their shared childhood and extending through the Jackson 5 years, Michael’s phenomenal solo career, his loves, his suffering, and his tragic end, which sparked worldwide grief. It is a sophisticated, no-holds-barred examination of the man, aimed at fostering a true and final understanding of who he was, why he was, and what shaped him.

Jermaine Jackson knew the real Michael Jackson like only a brother can. In this raw, honest, and poignant account, he reveals the Michael he knew so well and understood, perhaps better than anyone else—Michael the private person, not Michael "The King of Pop". The Michael he started out with in a tiny house at 2300 Jackson Street in Gary, Indiana. The brother, the son, the father, the complex—the unknown Michael.

Jermaine will not flinch from tackling the tough issues. He covers it all: the torrid press, the scandals, the allegations, the court cases, the internal politics, the ill-fated AEG tour. But where previous works have presented only thin versions of a media construct, Jermaine will provide a glimpse into the complex heart, mind, and soul of a genius but troubled entertainer. As Michael’s confidante—and a witness to history on the inside—Jermaine Jackson is the only person qualified to deliver the real Michael and reveal his innermost thoughts, opinions, and emotions through the most headline-making episodes of his life.

Filled with keen insight, rich in anecdotes and behind-the-scenes detail, You Are Not Alone is the book for any true Michael Jackson fan, and for anyone trying to make sense of the troubled artist whose tragic death was so premature.

Great Read

I enjoyed listening to this audible as it gives an insight into who Michael Jackson was from his brother's perspective. It helped me to better understand, love and respect the man Michael is. Michael was a creative, innovative, talented singer and it shows in his lyrics, the music videos, dance moves and the story or message that lies behind some of the songs. I can relate to Michael being a private person. He had no choice but to do this to safeguard himself and the ones he loved. He was a loving man who loved children and gived away his money so willingly to charities. He was a child in a man's body as was stated in his book. Like everyone else, Michael just wanted to be a good person who wanted to do good things in his life. He was not perfect but he always strived to be the best he could be. His memory would live on forever. Thank you Jermaine for sharing your insights about Michael with the world. I appreciate it. Love to all of you.

Better Than Expected

I'm a huge Michael Jackson fan (even have a tattoo) and have read or listened to several books on MJ. I had this one on my wish list for quite a while before finally purchasing it. I have to say I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I do feel you have to take much of what Jermaine says from his own account with a grain of salt, as he paints himself in the best possible light and as a loving, faithful brother no matter what. I think there's more resentment there (some of it understandable) than he lets on. But having such direct insight into Michael's childhood life was pretty fascinating, and I enjoyed the early chapters quite a bit. Jermaine's account of "Word to the Badd" and the leaked lyrics was interesting and I'm glad he included the back story on that. It was obvious in the later chapters that Michael had distanced himself from much of his family by then and Jermaine didn't have as much firsthand knowledge. I still believe Jermaine sugarcoated some of his accounts to make himself look better, but overall, I'm glad to have experienced this book and will probably listen to it again at some point. Like others, I was taken aback by the narrator, Jermaine Jackson, Jr., because of his deep voice, and I genuinely wish that Jermaine Sr. had narrated it himself. It would've helped the book feel even more authentic. Other than that, though, I would recommend this book to MJ fans.

An icon is gone too soon!

As said " A good story has a beginning, a middle and an end " .
Michael Jackson's sibling, Jermaine had given to us the public a written picture of his brother epic life and journey.
The book is well spoken and fluid to listen . It is been a pleasant time hearing that story.

Excellent

I enjoyed reading this book and all the insights into Michael Jackson’s life. My husband and I attended an MJ Cirque Du Soleil show in Vegas which was fabulous and I wanted to learn more about Michael. He truly was a genius and the world lost one of the best entertainers in the world the day he died. So sad he had to go through all the malicious filth he went through while on earth.

Sunshine, Moonlight, Good Times

I really loved this book. It highlights the bright energy that is the Jackson family and tells the story how Michael harnessed his gift to blow through oppression and inequality straight into the welcoming arms of music eternity. Michael’s true life was a mystery to so many and it gives so much insight into who he really was, what made him so driven, and let’s you see a version of him that the media tried their hardest to hide. A wonderful book written with a desire to bring closure that ultimately starts the enjoyment and wonderment all again. Thank you Jermaine for writing this
