About this listen
Where is your sugar coming from? Most likely everywhere. Sure, it's in ice cream and cookies, but what scared Eve O. Schaub was the secret world of sugar - hidden in bacon, crackers, salad dressing, pasta sauce, chicken broth, and baby food. With her eyes open by the work of obesity expert Dr. Robert Lustig and others, Eve challenged her husband and two school-age daughters to join her on a quest to eat no added sugar for an entire year. Along the way, Eve uncovered the real costs of our sugar-heavy American diet including diabetes, obesity, and increased incidences of health problems such as heart disease and cancer. The stories, tips, and recipes she shares throw fresh light on questionable nutritional advice we've been following for years and show that it is possible to eat at restaurants and go grocery shopping - with less and even no added sugar.

In The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning, artist Margareta Magnusson, with Scandinavian humor and wisdom, instructs listeners to embrace minimalism.

Story
Food. There's plenty of it around, and we all love to eat it. So why should anyone need to defend it? Because in the so-called Western diet, food has been replaced by nutrients, and common sense by confusion—most of what we’re consuming today is longer the product of nature but of food science. The result is what Michael Pollan calls the American Paradox: The more we worry about nutrition, the less healthy we see to become.

Very intriguing
I enjoyed this audible book. Sometimes I wanted more of the science and less family drama. I see why the author included those details as it made it more believable what a hard year it was and how hard the years after we're going to be.

Inspirational
Very inspiring and interesting topic. I would have e liked to know more about the changes they saw in their moods, bodies, and sleep habits. I did not like how the narrator changed her voice for the children, it was annoying.

Smart read for ridding sugar from your diet
Would you listen to Year of No Sugar again? Why?
Yes, I loved the idea of having not sugar for a year. Using her family with the project was very relatable because I myself would love to try something like that. I would actually listen to this book again for her ideas and tips of what she did to get through the year.
What did you like best about this story?
Eve is honest and easy to relate to. She write's well and with Hillary Huber reading it I enjoyed this a great deal. Nutrition is a topic I am always interested in.
Have you listened to any of Hillary Huber and John Lee ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, and they all sound great.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me really consider how horrible sugar is and how much we don't need it in our diets. It really made me think and possibly want to try something like her experiment.
Any additional comments?
Eve has a website that is also a nice read as well.

Have me steal heads up on what sugar is & is not
I enjoyed the book a lot. It gave me facts that I am looking for. It was written in a way that I thoroughly identify with. The story gave me background to present day and summed up afterwards. I would recommend it to my friends and family.

Interesting
I liked her approach. In both writing her tale,& the way she approached things with her kids. She has inspired me to try to regroup this year,& take my family's health more seriously . Sometimes you just need a little inspiration to get going. Thanks for chronicling your story!

An adventure of learning how to live w/o sugar
This is the story of a family's adventure of learning how to live without added sugar.
Just what is sugar? Is sugar just a sweetener? Or, are there different kinds of sugar? Are there some that the human body can digest safely, and others that are as bad as cigarette smoking? It turns out that there are.
This is a story of a family and their relationship with sugar and the year they lived without it, how it affected them and what they learned.

food for thought
I'm already avoiding sugar as a rule, this book has bolstered my resolve. I will be doing follow up research. I'm curious to know how the author is doing today
