About this listen

With nods to Bridget Jones and Pride and Prejudice, a charming #ownvoices queer holiday rom-com debut about a free-spirited social media astrologer who agrees to fake a relationship with an uptight actuary until New Year's Eve—with results not even the stars could predict!

After a disastrous blind date, Darcy Lowell is desperate to stop her well-meaning brother from playing matchmaker ever again. Love—and the inevitable heartbreak—is the last thing she wants. So she fibs and says her latest setup was a success. Darcy doesn't expect her lie to bite her in the ass.

Elle Jones, one of the astrologers behind the popular Twitter account, Oh My Stars, dreams of finding her soul mate. But she knows it is most assuredly not Darcy... a no-nonsense stick-in-the-mud, who is way too analytical, punctual, and skeptical for someone as free-spirited as Elle. When Darcy's brother—and Elle's new business partner—expresses how happy he is that they hit it off, Elle is baffled. Was Darcy on the same date? Because... awkward.

When Darcy begs Elle to play along, she agrees to pretend they're dating to save face. But with a few conditions: Darcy must help Elle navigate her own overbearing family over the holidays and their arrangement expires on New Year's Eve. The last thing they expect is to develop real feelings during a fake relationship.

But maybe opposites can attract when true love is written in the stars?

Disappointing ending

The story line was overall great and I loved the character development. I just did not like the ending, it was anti climatic.

Worth the purchase, for sure...

I can’t say this story wasn’t predictable, but I enjoyed listening to it very much. Fun, funny, sweet, and even a little tearful, which doesn’t usually happen for me.
The book is very well written. The narration was good. I especially appreciated the “Darcy” voice. It was exactly how I was imagining. The characters were well developed and believable for the most part. Personally, I had a hard time with Darcy’s mom. She felt like a stretch to me.
Overall, I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next one.

Narration is distracting

Something about the way the narrator read this book was really distracting to me and made what was an otherwise really sweet story feel cheesy, but based on other reviews I think I’m in the minority!

EVERYTHING

This was such an amazing read! The characters were so realistic and captivating. I loved the storyline. I also love the fact that this book was an actual perceptive from realistic women who love women. It was sooo sultry. I had to take a breathe on some of the parts. So romantic. The vulnerability. The differences but the sparks that flew. The imaginary was so tasteful and enticing. Honestly, throughout the read, I wanted to watch it! When it ended, I was distraught! Also, the narrators voice did an amazing job captivating me. Highly recommend and I hope there is another! I never do book reviews but I just had to share because it was THAT good! Thank you for seeing me as a queer woman 🖤

Cute but…

I like this book and it had some adorable parts in it but I feel a slight disconnect from the writing. I had a hard time picturing the characters, especially Darcy.
Something was forced and that became more apparent with the sex scenes. I skipped through like 99.9% of those parts but of what little I heard, it seemed like a fanfiction and didn’t have a real life feeling to it. I would have like the book more without those those scenes. The whole book was about love but those parts didn’t match up with the rest of the book.

It was worth the listen but I will probably never listen to it again.
