About this listen

An assassin at a renaissance faire. What could possibly go wrong? Everything, if you’re the Spider....

I might be Gin Blanco, a.k.a. the assassin the Spider, but even I need a break from the bad guys every now and then. So when Owen Grayson, my significant other, suggests a trip to the Winter’s Web Renaissance Faire, it sounds like a perfect distraction from all my problems.

The faire starts off innocently enough, but something seems slightly off about the cheery atmosphere and costumed characters. Maybe I’m being paranoid, but I can’t help but feel like I’m trapped in someone else’s icy web - and that they don’t want me to leave the faire alive....

Note: Winter’s Web is a 27,000-word novella that takes place after the events of Venom in the Veins, book 17 in the Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series. Winter’s Web first appeared in the Seasons of Sorcery anthology in 2018.

When Owen gets tickets to the Renaissance Faire, Gin and the gang expect to have a normal day filled with medieval outfits, food and lots of fun. But as usual, things quickly go south when some pirates target Owen.

This was a fun novella. I love the idea of the gang dressing up and going to a ren faire. It is so silly and it worked wonderfully. The enemy is an unexpected one for Owen but it doesn’t stop him from doing what needs to be done. I love when Gin and Owen work together against the enemy, so this novella was wonderful for me. Also these two are just a great couple and I love seeing them fight together.

Overall, this is a short but great novella. This one doesn’t have any progress on the overarching Circle storyline but it still was fun to read. Also, I loved Sophia’s outfit. I can always count on this goth dwarf to have cool outfits for every occasion.

A great little novella

not much to say, this feel just like the long stories just with less fluff...
makes me wonder if Ms. Estep should either make her stories shorter or actually put more substance into them...

Lauren is a beacon of light as always, her performance wonderful and soothing

feels like a full sized story

Good thing Gin was sloppy, sloppy, sloppy in this novella, or it would’ve been over at ten minutes.
This tidbit adds nothing to the series except some forgettable amateurs and some Renaissance jokes.
