Publisher's summary

“We live here, my girl, because it is close to the Way, and echoes of its magic are felt in our world. The Way is a path leading to another place, where the people are governed by different rules. Magic runs through them and their land.”

With her boundless curiosity and wild spirit, Fer has always felt that she doesn’t belong. Not when the forest is calling to her, when the rush of wind through branches feels more real than school or the quiet farms near her house. Then she saves an injured creature - he looks like a boy, but he’s really something else. He knows who Fer truly is, and invites her through the Way, a passage to a strange, dangerous land.

Fer feels an instant attachment to this realm, where magic is real and oaths forge bonds stronger than iron. But a powerful huntress named the MÓr rules here, and Fer can sense that the land is perilously out of balance. Fer must unlock the secrets about the parents she never knew and claim her true place before the worlds on both sides of the Way descend into endless winter.

Sarah Prineas captivates in this fantasy-adventure about a girl who must find within herself the power to set right a terrible evil.

A Pleasure for My Daughter and I!

Would you listen to Winterling again? Why?

My daughter, Mercy, will probably listen to it 5 to 7 times and I will have no problem listening to it three times. It is fast-paced, and holds attention very well.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Winterling?

Why spoil it? Let's just say the way she goes into the other world is cool!

Which scene was your favorite?

Why spoil it?

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely.

Any additional comments?

Excellent book for my 11-year-old daughter! There are many things to be learned from this book. The main character Jenni---FER begins to find out who she is and realize that she has a God-given destiny. She has to be willing to risk danger and do what is right in spite of the fact that no one else is doing it in order to find out what her mother and father were about and what can be done about the dismal state of the world she finds herself in.___________I was particularly glad to see the use of devices like a threefold oath (being a minister, we say a threefold Amen at the end of service which is a covenantal oath). __________ This book also teaches what Constantine learned, that springtime and resurrection doesn't have to come through pagan blood sacrifice, but can truly come when the "real" and rightful ( Queen in this case, but could be King) steps into their rightful leadership role. The slaves are set free!Top-notch!_______________________Since this guided review didn't ask about the reader, let me just say that the reader here is top-notch! She does not get too shrill and she keeps the pace well. Her voice is very believable as the protagonist. And I enjoyed the way she did the "Puck". I will look for more books which you read-- and so will my daughter.
