Publisher's summary

Embark on a wondrous journey through the land of Whichwood in this stunning companion to Tahereh Mafi's acclaimed best seller Furthermore.

Our story begins on a frosty night....

Laylee can barely remember the happier times before her beloved mother died. Before her father, driven by grief, lost his wits (and his way) and she was left as the sole remaining mordeshoor in the village of Whichwood, destined to spend her days scrubbing the skins and souls of the dead in preparation for the afterlife. It's become easy to forget and easier still to ignore not only her ever-increasing loneliness but the way her overworked hands are stiffening and turning silver, just like her hair.

But soon a pair of familiar strangers appear, and Laylee's world is turned upside down as she rediscovers color, magic, and the healing power of friendship.

Critically acclaimed author Tahereh Mafi weaves together an all-new magical adventure in this lush and enchanting dark Persian fantasy.

So well done!

I can't imagine anyone better than Bronson Pinchot for the narrator! It is perfection! I only wanted to *listen* to this book, not read it, because I was so in love with his reading of "Furthermore". I dearly hope there will be more books in this series because I have grown so fond of the characters.

Great performance

Loved how Bronson Pinchot narrated the tale. Again another odd story by this author. Kind of gruesome in parts and sad in others. Friends. Death. Traditions. Rituals. Cruelty

Cosy Winter Read

This is a beautifully written wintery read and an imaginative story. I also liked the characters that. Tahereh Mafi created. I definitely want to read more of her books.

Freaked me out

I really really loved the Futhermore book and was looking forward to reading Whichwood but it was on chapter 18 I had to end it. Spiders coming out of a kids elbow and bugs crawling all over him as a special power. NOPE! Can’tSo disappointed. Enjoy if you can stomach it.

Too Creepy for Middle Grade

I think this book is wrongly advertised as a " Middle Grade" book, sure the characters are twelve and thirteen years old but that does not make it a Middle Grade novel .. this one is inspired by the Persian and Turkish culture in a town called Whichwood where we meet Laylee and her creepy job of washing the bodies of the dead .. did I mention she is thirteen ? and there was an execution scene !! I felt afraid from this that I don't know when this darkness would end .. the story did have a nice idea but I found many issues with it .. I preferred the first book (Furthermore) much more

The narration is what made me finish the book as fast as I did .. this guy is a genius .. keep going :)
