Publisher's summary

From best-selling author Susannah Charleson comes an important and heartfelt exploration into the world of lost dogs and the power of reunion.

One in six dogs go missing at some point in their lives, leaving bereft owners to search high and low, hang missing posters, check shelters, and hope for good news. But amid these grim statistics, countless happy endings are forged. Tails wag again. Best friends are reunited.

In Where the Lost Dogs Go, Susannah Charleson, author of Scent of the Missing and a trusted chronicler of the human-animal bond, dives headlong into the world of missing dogs. The mission to reunite lost pets with their families starts with Susannah's own shelter rescue dog, Ace, a plucky Maltese mix with a mysterious past who narrowly survived months wandering lost. While Susannah formally studies animal behavior, lost pet search tactics, social media strategies, and the psychology of loss, Ace also steps up for training. Cheerful and resourceful, Ace has revealed a nose for the scent of lost pets, and together they help neighbors and strangers in their searching.

In Where the Lost Dogs Go, listeners take to the streets beside Susannah to bring home a host of missing pets. Along the way, Susannah finds a part of herself also lost. And when unexpected heartbreak shatters her own sense of direction, it is Ace - the shelter dog that started it all - who leads Susannah home.

Inquisitive, instructive, heartrending, and hopeful, Where the Lost Dogs Go pays tribute to the missing dogs - and to the found - and to the restless space in between.

Fun and Educational

Loved the stories, laughed, cried and hated it when the book ended. The information on searching for a lost pet was very educational and stated in a way to instruct rather than make you feel worse about a pet you have loved and lost.

Informative

I listened to this on audio, and like her other books, the author did a good job as narrator. This book was interesting and also has good tips what to do if you lose a pet and if you find a pet. There are things I never thought of, particularly with respect to chasing or trying catch a loose pet, and I now have a better understanding of what to do in both situations. She talks about her dog Puzzle that has a quality that attracts lost dogs to her. It reminded me of my neighbor’s dog, who dogs seem to gravitate to, even dogs like mine who normally don’t like other dogs. Good informative book.

My new favorite author

I adore my dogs, from Bootsie, the faithful companion I had from ages 3-21, to my soulmate Baron, the Golden with whom I shared a birthday and who tragically died from bloat just shy of his sixth birthday, and whose spirit remains with me still, 10 years after his death.
His spirit was with me in my car as I searched for a new house mate - I had never been without a dog- and he led me to a very different female Sapsaree puppy that taught herself to alert me to elevated sugar and blood pressure levels when I slept. She will be 10 in 5 weeks.
We share our home with a 4 year old mixed breed rescued from a brutally abusive situation. She’s a wonderful girl, too, but only truly trusts me and my granddaughter.
I love Suzannas stories, and am inspired by her. I recommend her books to anyone that has ever loved a dog or thought about public service.
I’ve listened to all of her books, and if she and I both stay healthy enough, I can’t wait for her next release.

Great narration

This book is poignant and informative. Really a joy to spend the time on this journey into animal rescues, and stories of her parents.
Books narrated by their author can be wonderful, think Elisabeth Elliot, or awful. Susanna Charleston is wonderful.

Powerful!

I love all of Susannah's books; this one, perhaps, the most touching and informative.

Heartfelt and useful information

It’s good to know that the things we take for granted with our own pets will help us find them if, God forbid, should they ever get away from us. I’ve always used a dog seatbelt and will admit that sometimes in the front seat. Not anymore. I dislike retractable leads because I have a scar where one was wrapped around my calf. Nevertheless, a loose dog running around with it still attached was something I hadn’t really considered. Thanks for all the useful information. My little Rwby loves to play “find it” and your book helped reinforce some good things to do with her.

Brilliant

The author is at skilled at narrating as she is at writing. I’ve read two other books written by her. They were also very interesting. I hope she continues writing.

Susannah Charleston best author and top narrator!

I'm spoiled, now. it's difficult to find a book to follow the three beautifully written and perfectly performed by Susannah. I loved every word and the antics of every dog or cat. Of course, Puzzle is certainly one amazing girl and I'm so grateful to have gotten to know her through these books.

Hopefully, soon there will be a new book by Ms. Charleson.
