Publisher's summary

If anyone can smell an investment opportunity, it's railroad men and big city bankers. They're not the kind of folks that Sheriff Mackey is used to dealing with. But greed is greed, and if anyone knows how money can drive men to murder, it's the sheriff of a boomtown like Dover Station. But when Mackey is forced to gun down a pair of saloon rats, it brings a powderkeg of trouble - with a quick-burning fuse of vengeance named Alexander Duramont. This bloodthirsty psychopath wants to kill the sheriff for killing his buddies. And he plans to get his revenge using a highly combustible mix of fire, fear, and dynamite....

Mackey's not sure how he's going to stop this blood-crazed lunatic. But it's going to be one heck of an explosive and very violent showdown....

Aaron Mackey

This is a great start in this series about Aaron Mackey. Aaron is a no nonsense sheriff. He kills a couple of guys and there gang wants revenge. Aaron and what Posey he can get goes after them. There is to be a lot of killing before this is settled. This is a action packed western. It's written in a way that keeps you wanting to see what happens next. I'll continue to the next book. Rodney Turner did a good job narrating this book. If my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. Thank you.

Wonderful story and another outstanding performance by J. Rodney Turner, he puts you right there, in the book, some narrators just read the lines- Mr Turner is more - real !

,Protect their own

How often I have seen it in men who have gone through great hardship.. This story of the men of the town demonstrate it well As seen from the eyes of the sheriff there was e understanding how courage gets. Used up, little left except protection of self

An excellent start to an amazing series!

After finishing the fourth book, I'm even more impressed by this first volume. If you love westerns, you'll love this. If you love action, you'll love this. Aaron Mackey is epic! Billy Sunday is his perfect balance. The town of Dover Station is a perfect setting inhabited with imperfect yet fully developed characters. I can't recommend Terrence McCauley or this series enough.

Good Ol' Fashioned Westerns

Now, on book #3 in this series, I feel confident to recommend this new Terrance McCauley collection to Western genre fans.

First, I was happy to find that J. Rodney Turner has found a new author for his deep timbre voice. One that sounds as though it just walked off the Streets of Laredo. Rodney puts the 'W' in Western narration. And, he has a new author for which he can ply that voice to bring the Old West to back to life. Not that some of the Johnstone novels were not entertaining; it's just that with so much churn they were getting a bit pulpy.

Author Terrance McCauley is not pulp. His writing is fresh and his plots are new. He bends some old stereotypes too with his choice of Deputy Sheriff (no spoilers). These stories flow and keep you up at night waiting for the next plot twist, villain, or (yup) gunfight.

Go with this series...you won't regret your purchases. I give this series two Sharpe's rifles up for reinvigorating a dying genre.

Strong character

Too much cursing. Using the Lords name in vain. It makes me cringe. Because it offends me and I know it will others.
