Acerca de esta escucha

When Your Teen Has an Eating Disorder will empower you to help your teen using a unique, family-based treatment (FBT) approach. With this guide, you'll learn to respectfully and lovingly oversee your teen's nutritional rehabilitation, which includes helping to normalize eating behaviors, managing meals, expanding food flexibility, teaching independent and intuitive eating habits, and using coping strategies and recovery skills to prevent relapse.

In addition to helping parents and caregivers, this book is a wonderful resource for mental health professionals, teachers, counselors, and coaches who work with parents of and teens with eating disorders. It clearly outlines the principles of FBT and the process of involving parents collaboratively in treatment.

As a parent, feeding your child is a fundamental act of love - it has been from the start! However, when a child is affected by an eating disorder, parents often lose confidence in performing this basic task. This compassionate guide will help you gain the confidence needed to nurture your teen and help them heal.

My daughter is finishing up 3 months of inpatient and hospitalization rehab for anorexia and bulemia. I have been frantic on how to handle our life when she comes home from the treatment center. This book gave clear and concise answers and viewpoints from several different eating disorder possible situations that I may be faced with. I will refer back to different chapters for advice as different situations arise.
Thank you.

With the shortage in professional help available for such a common and life threatening disorder I was horribly disheartened even as a medical professional myself of what to do. Everything I read (4 books over the course of 2 weeks) would always jump into the terrifying statistics and physical damage being done as you wait to establish hopefully with a competent collaborative team for treatment. Yes…..I get it…..we need a fricking therapist, medical provider, and dietician (all hopefully with specialized experience in treating ED)….But what in the heck do you do in the meantime as you watch your child shrink in size and become desperately depressed right before your eyes???

I wanted to know what to do for some immediate help while we waited for our daughter. Waiting to get established with professional help is painful and just more time lost with further decline physically, psychologically, emotionally, and socially. We lost a month just by not reading the right books!

We’re only one week in doing Family Based Therapy but have our teen eating again with energy to actually participate now in therapy. We’re optimistic we’re on the right path now doing FBT at home at hoping to be part of an IOP program as well.

Hopefully I can update this as we’re farther in but if I am ever asked as a parent read this and if you can follow the medical side of things….”Sick Enough” was very helpful. Jump right to the chapter in Sock Enough about refeeding. They are the most helpful so far!

Feed their starved brain so they can participate! This book helps you to understand how to do that.

As a dietitian who primarily works with eating disorder clients, this book is an excellent resource, especially for caregivers learning to navigate life/care for a child with an eating disorder. Would highly recommend!

Finally, a practical step by step guide for parents who have teens with eating disorders. There’s so much shame and guilt as a parent to think we caused the eating disorder - good news: we didn’t! No matter where your child is in the treatment cycle this is a must read handbook that has practical treatments that any parent can easily understand and implement. This family approach is one that has made our relationship stronger with our child. Tip to other parents: you did NOT cause your child’s eating disorder.

Game changer for our approach as parents

I like the guidance and recommendations to parents that we are not aware of ED issues. I will check resources in the webpage to make sure if my child needs intervention.

Good guide
