Story
From the beginning, Geneen Roth was told she was too sensitive, too emotional, too curious, too demanding, too intense, and too big. Yet gaining and losing weight for decades did not improve her self-worth or reduce other people's criticisms. Like most women who struggle with their weight, she believed that if she could resolve what seemed to be the source of her self-hatred - how and what she ate - she would be thin, happy, and free. That belief, she discovered, was false.

I’m missing out on my life. What’s wrong with me? If that’s ever crossed your mind, and if you know there’s more to life than what you’ve been living, this audiobook is for you. It sucks to acknowledge that you are what’s keeping you from the life you want. You sacrifice what you want most for what you want in the moment. You know everything you’re supposed to do, and yet you feel stuck - limited by your past, overwhelmed by your future - in a purgatory of your own behavior.

Now, 10 years and many studies later, she expands her body of work to explore a brand-new take on self-compassion. Although kindness and self-acceptance allow us to be with ourselves as we are, in all our glorious imperfection, the desire to alleviate suffering at the heart of this mindset isn't always gentle, sometimes it's fierce.

Debbie Ford explains that the dark side of our personality should not be hidden. By denying our dark side, we reject aspects of our true natures rather than giving ourselves the freedom to live authentically. Here she shows that it is possible to acknowledge and accept our so-called weaknesses, proving that these qualities may be hidden strengths. Full of illuminating stories and practical exercises, Debbie Ford shows us how to reconcile our darker impulses and find the gifts they offer.

Pretty Good
I've found that I just like most of Geneen Roth's books. I haven't found exceptionally different information in one from another but enjoy the new form of inspiration and affirmation, as it were.
The reader is good, and gave a pretty good performance, but has an older sounding voice and speaks still as if she's reading but reading very well. But she's just not Geneen, who I mostly love listening to, inspite of her sometimes baby voice, because when she speaks, it's as though you are listening to her give a speech in person, not at all as though she's reading.
There was no story as this is non-fiction self-help, but I didn't want to give it a low-rating when really it simply doesn't apply. Audible needs to take that into account. Right now they make you rate all categories before moving on to the review portion.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and found it helpful. I may even listen to it again some time.

So reassuring
I have read a lot of Geneen’s books and they can sound similar, but this one was shorter in chapters, straight and to the point in her guidance, still had the kindness and compassion message. So grateful for all of her work. Another great read.

Spot On!
Eye opening! Everything in Geneen's book makes sense. I find myself having ah ha moments with moments of giddiness. I became to enjoy the narrator, however, miss Geneen's voice telling her own story. She's right, I have to find my own beautiful self and that won't come from trying to lose weight. I'm so inspired and motivated to keep finding my.. self and try to enjoy this journey. 💖

Good Listen
I really like the verbiage behnd this book. What I have a problem with, is the author, or the recording or her voice. There is a great meaning behind the book. There are allot of helpfull hints contained therein, if you can get past her voice and scratchy recording. I would still recommend it to anyone who has had an issue with their weight.
