About this listen

Life is meant to be savored, but that’s not easy with no family, limited prospects, and a past you’d rather not talk about. Still, Callie Smith doesn’t know how to feel when she discovers she has a brother and a sister - Malcolm, who grew up with affection, wealth, and privilege, and Keira, a streetwise 12-year-old. Callie doesn’t love being alone, but at least it’s safe. Despite her trepidation, she moves into the grand family home with her siblings and grandfather on the shores of Lake Washington, hoping just maybe this will be the start of a whole new life.

But starting over can be messy. Callie and Keira fit in with each other, but not with their posh new lifestyle, leaving Malcolm feeling like the odd man out in his own home. He was clever enough to turn a sleepy Seattle mail-order food catalog into an Online gourmet powerhouse, yet he can’t figure out how to help his new sisters feel secure. Becoming a family will take patience, humor, a little bit of wine, and a whole lot of love. But love isn’t Malcolm’s strong suit...until a beautiful barista teaches him that an open heart, like the family table, can always make room for more.

In this emotional, funny, and heartfelt story, Susan Mallery masterfully explores the definition of a modern family - blended by surprise, not by choice - and how those complicated relationships can add unexpected richness to life.

Another Mallory Winner!

..And Susan Mallery does it again. After not reading anything written by Mallory or read by Eby for a long time, I decided I’d try again. Mallery’s stories were beginning to all sound the same to me. But I took a chance on this one and was pleasantly surprised. I really loved this one, and I especially loved the characters. This story was new and fresh and went right to the very end, keeping me totally engaged. If you’re a Susan Mallery fan, this one is a keeper.

A Different Take on a Blended Family.

This story is about 3 siblings who share the same father. They have just recently learned they have step-slblings when their paternal grandfather moves them all into his huge mansion so he can get to know them. Interestingly, each one's mother had passed away and one of them has a criminal record. The storyline is mostly about their adjustment to each other but Susan manages to fit a couple of romances into the equation, as well. Tanya Eby did a good job of narrating. I feel like her narrations are a little stiff but she speaks clearly and there is no problem with understanding what she says.

Refreshing Story

This is my 2nd book by Susan Mallery and I loved the story. 4.5 stars. I like Tanya Eby but the characters sounded the same at times. This story was different and a refreshing change. I loved all the main characters: Malcolm, Santiago Callie, Keira, and Delaney. Great story about a blended family and finding love.#SiblingStories #FeelGood #Heartfelt #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Another Winner

I love Susan Mallery! Her stories always takes me back home where I get to see old friends and meet new ones. This was actually my 1st audiobook, so it was a bit hard for me to really enjoy. I do much better when I see the print as I see a movie in my head when I read. The book itself, add to your TBR pile as it doesnt disappoint.

Wonderful story

This is a great family story of newly discovered siblings and how they work to become the support for each other they all need. The road to love is rough for the two oldest but they persevere and it all comes right in the end. I liked the way the different aspects of the story wove together into a satisfying whole. Tanya Eby did a wonderful job with the narration; she made the story easy to follow and her performance added to the emotion of the story.
