Publisher's summary

Beautifully tender and unforgettably funny, prepare to fall in love with this modern-day nod to a classic romantic comedy.

Ever since their chance encounter as seatmates on the plane ride from hell, Harry “Harrison” Fields and Harry “Henry” Lee have had a love-hate relationship. But every time their paths have crossed over the years, they’ve grown to like each other more and more, even developing an unlikely friendship.

Now, Harrison is a fun-loving music teacher who wears his heart on his sleeve, and Henry is a hard-driving business man who’s still striving to get out of his father’s shadow.

As they go through life’s inevitable heartaches and losses, their friendship only deepens. Sure, there’s always been a simmering attraction between them, but nothing worth threatening their friendship over...until one of them takes things too far. But when a valuable friendship hangs in the balance, is a chance at romance worth the price?

Love doesn’t care if you believe in it
This new twist on a legendary rom-com classic by debut author Sydney Smyth sees Harrison and Henry, aka Harry and Harry, bumping into each other over the years. At first their encounters don’t necessarily end well, but nevertheless there’s something special left between them. With a dual narration from fan-favorite Teddy Hamilton and new-favorite Malcom Young, there’s something special in the audio performance as well. The slow fall of our two main characters is a ride I’ll sign up for any day, but now with these two accomplished narrators in the picture, listening to When Harry Met Harry has been a sweet summer song to my ears.

Teddy Love

So in love with this story from start to finish. I could honestly listen to Teddy Hamilton read the label off a soup can. Excellent.

Meh

Honestly if it weren't for Teddy Hamilton I wouldn't have finished it. I liked Malcolm Young but his sound quality was so off. The little bits of music between the chapters brought you out of the story. It was hard to like Henry. Zero heat level. Overall just a meh from me.

A FUN ROMP

Just a sweet tale of love. Good read for a" Covid news" exhausted brain. Easy romantic read. No graphic set, little swearing and endearing story line make this a n ice respite from our current reality.

Fun, sweet, kind of cheesy.

Worth listening to for lighthearted fare. Well written, well narrated, cheesy musical interludes between chapters. Like a 50s sitcom.

Fun but...

As a frequent reader of MM/gay romance, i'm always delighted to see my favorite pairing used in a book that attracts a lot of mainstream reading attention. Red, White and Royal Blue was such a book, and i thought deservedly so. It's a fave. When Harry Met Harry, however, while charming in spots, suffers the pangs of so much traditional, tropey romance. It's a friends to lovers book and has next to no secondary conflict besides the "he's my friend so i can't have sex with him" push/pull of the trope. Consequently, there are lots of places in the story in which the characters are alternatively too stupid to live and unlikable, since they have to do such dumb things in order to maintain their distance to the end. When the end finally arrives, it's an anticlimax, since everything that kept them apart was artificial. By the time the phony conflict had been stretched out the required number of pages, i realized if it had been a MF romance, I likely would have given up well before the end. With that said, Harrison is a charming guy, and Henry, while frequently a dunce and a dick, ultimately redeems himself. Still, the 4 stars is pretty generous. There are sooo many wonderful gay romances to choose from, this wouldn't make my list of faves.

Cute HEA romance

I love this story the characters were really funny and sweet and a lot of the book was really relatable monologues about love and heartbreak. I did get worried it would have a bittersweet ending but I’m glad I continued to listen and gave it a chance!
