About this listen

"God loves to be sought after! And it’s the exploration of the mysteries of who he really is that will not only create in you a holy curiosity and awe, but will also combat boredom in your life. There is nothing you can experience that is more invigorating than having God reveal himself to you." (S.J. Hill)

Bring your Bible and sit down to explore; get to know what God is really like!

The way we think of God will impact our experience and our ability to live a fulfilling Christian life. The way a teacher thinks and teaches about God can be either helpful or very destructive to those he or she teaches.

Pastor and teacher S.J. Hill is deeply conscious of this critical topic and has spent years studying it and writing about it. He believes that understanding our loving, rejoicing, creating, and relating God is critical to our spiritual lives and our witness. Using scripture, history, and his own experience, he lays out a view of a God who loves and nurtures. This is not a God who is weak and wishy-washy, but rather a God whose love and grace lead us and empower us to live holier lives.

Imagine what could happen in our churches if we gave witness to a God such as this!

Absolutely loved!

I loved the way this book loped along like taking a walk and talking with a friend. It’s intelligent and down to earth at the same time. It’s scripturally heavy enough to support the weight of the message, which I’m thinking could be new to some people. But the most challenging thing about it was receiving even MORE of God’s love. I needed that. Who doesn’t? I’m so glad I listened! Steve Bremner is a favorite narrator.

An eye-opening revelation of the Father

This is an eye-opening revelation of the true nature and character of the Father as revealed in scripture and confirmed throughout creation. A must for anyone seeking to get past the barriers of the traditional religious portrayal of an angry and distant God. The narration is very good and flows seamlessly with the narrative.

Simple, practical

Intending to be set alongside the (sometimes stuffy) academic side of spirituality, this book works well to awaken the raw longings of the heart for the One who made us.

Enjoying God is the point of life

I loved how this book focused on delightful aspects of who God is that are often overlooked by "serious theological tomes", if you know the kind I mean. I was often brought to a place of worship and wonder as I listened to it. I also LOVED that this book made enjoying God the point, because it IS the point.

I will confess that the chapter of this book that attempted to look at certain things in the OT through different eyes didn't sit great with me. That doesn't mean I'm right, of course, I just don't see things the same way so it's hard for me to unreservedly recommend this book.

Everything else about this was great, though, and it didn't negate what was awesome about the book. Truly.

Loving Life With Jesus

I have known Steve and Pam for years. This book is about the fierce love that Jesus has for us; a laughing and dancing Jesus. In these serious times, this book brings the balance. In the yard, my Dad used to spin me in circles and make me laugh. Guess what? Jesus wants to do that, too! Great book and I highly recommend it. ❤️

Exalting, Inviting, Relieving

In, "What's God Really Like", S.J. Hill has taken the well worth time to explore and expound on the goodness and greatness of God. Many times we don't see past our own lives and surroundings. As the Psalmist David said, "Come, magnify the Lord with me, let us exalt His name together." While listening to this audiobook I joined in with the author in exalting the Lord and my own religious ideas as well as my reluctant acceptance of God's goodness were countered with a continuous wave like exaltation of God, His love, His goodness namely what God is really like.

Lesser joys, lesser pleasures in the form of many of the sins we and others choose or struggle with were explained in a way that I never heard expounded like S.J. Hill has put forth in this book. The answer isn't gritting our teeth to obtain a holiness that is anemic in its understanding but to see that God invites us into true joy, true pleasure and a fulfillment in Him that we were designed for which eclipses all of our lesser lovers or besetting sins. God truly is great and when we find our full satisfaction in Him then that is when we encounter true holiness.

God is beautiful and to see Him as such will soften the hardness of heart and religious mind. It will empower us to embrace Him and not let go, actually to enter His embrace and not leave it for something lesser.

I highly recommend this audiobook and to listen to it multiple times as a refreshing and renewing of the mind.

God’s personality and thoughts

An interesting journey into the process that puts together a picture of God’s personality and thoughts.
The writer uses a great narrative to frame this concept and the book has a nice flow to it, being easy to listen to.

Great book on the greatest Subject

What a treat. Few people have had such a massive impact on my thinking and feeling about God as S. J. Hill. If your idea of God makes you want to run away from Him rather than run into His arms, you need the vision of God that S. J. holds forth. There are riches and rivers of delight to be enjoyed in God. If that sentence sounds a little odd. Take a look. Taste and see that the Lord is Good! Have a listen here, then get a copy of Desiring God by John Piper and keep on swimming!
